Description: A short, thin girl in her mid-twenties wearing armor that almost seem too heavy for her, Yumi is a descendent of the tree spirits and most noticeable by her green and thick long hair. She has a quiet personality that prefers to be left in peace most of the time, especially if she's resting amongst foliage. She's also extremely perceptive of those around her, but tends to hold back from talking about it due to worries of intruding others' privacy. Originally from Mikawa but left after the Tokugawa coup, she originally joined the Hojo patrol teams because they hired her as a guide in the region.

Tactics: Yumi focuses on few but precise shots, making Pinpoint Targetting (ignore armor or shield) critical attacks with Improved Precise (ignore cover/concealment short of total) shooting.

Party Bonuses: While in a Favored Terrain (plains, forests, mountains, swamps) or using Infiltration ability to gain a temporary Favored Terrain for 12hrs, those with sight of Yumi gains +2 Initiative, Perception, Stealth, Survival, and cannot be tracked (Terrain Bond); this bonus increases to +4 and 'take 10' on climb, jump, and swim checks with three rounds of terrain studying for a specific 60ft-radius area (Advantageous Terrain). Can protect night camps with Hide Campsite [APG] illusion and any remaining Spike Growth spells.

Description: With his skin tinged slightly green, his hair a pure shade of gray, and vines always wrapped around his arm, Yuu's looks directly contrasts with his preferred red breastplate made from oni hide. A spiritfolk nearing thirty, Yuu always looks somewhat depressed, and one doesn't even need to talk to recognize his anti-social personality. He's also mostly a pacifist, yet this talented agriculture-specialist druid won't hesitate more than a moment to unleash plant spells on those threatening his friends. Yuu always has at least one transluscent green spirit (a wood wose) near him, and he has a particularly close relationship with Sonnet (Half-Elf Female Ranger).

Party Bonuses: Wind at Back [SpC] allows party to double overland movement speed. Can protect night camps with Hide Campsite [APG] illusion and remaining field control spells.

The Guard Spirit: Jinushigami

The hill which the base resides upon is home to a powerful guardian spirit of nature --- a Jinushigami (see description below). Maintaining a better relationship with the Jinushigami would not only keep the place in harmony, but also receive varying levels of assistance from the guardian and its powerful influence over the area.

Known Needs:
  • Keeping the lands pure of evil influences is a priority for any nature guardian, beginning with the center of its power: the local shrine. Persistently Consecrating or Hallowing the shrine itself will greatly help.
  • Divine magic is the magic of faith, thus the more faith a guardian spirit garnishes, the more power he has to tend the lands with. Actively promoting the popularity of the shrine and bringing in pilgrims, especially those outside the immediate area, would be appreciated.

Description:
Guardians of significant natural wonders like mountains, large lakes, forests, and so on, jinushigami (known also as land kami) are the most powerful and revered of all kami, commanding the very forces of nature itself to ensure the safety and security of their wards. These potent spirits garner the most respect among other kami, wielding great influence over both them and the native creatures that dwell within their territories. Jinushigami tend to stay hidden amongst their land, however, knowing that their intimate tie with the environment makes them highly desirable targets among those who would seek to do harm to nature.

Strangers to lands protected by jinushigami are well-advised to take the utmost care to not offend the powerful spirit creatures. When displeased, jinushigami can eradicate trails and warp the contours of their terrain, forcing travelers to endure unreasonable hardship in travel. These goliaths have little patience for those who would defile their efforts, and offenders who fail to listen to a jinushigami's initial hints quickly discover how devastating the kami's powers can be as they are forced from the land either by the lesser kami who serve their superior or by the towering jinushigami itself. Of course, those who respect and honor the jinushigami see the kami's other side, as the kami eases their travel by lessening undergrowth, shifting rivers, and otherwise providing subtle but incredible aid to travelers.

Jinushigami are ancient and wise, and while they are no fools, they prefer to give visitors to their domains the benefit of the doubt. Only when an individual makes known his disruptive intentions toward the structure and cohesion of nature does a jinushigami react with violence. Of course, those who align themselves with naturally opposing forces of the kami, such as the oni, do not receive this friendly grace period, and a jinushigami can perceive most treacherous thoughts, sensing a suspicious visitor through its connection with the land, then tracking it down to stealthily observe it more closely.

A jinushigami is 38 feet tall and weighs over 30,000 pounds. When they manifest physical bodies, they appear as lumbering humanoid forms made of earth and stone and plant matter, sometimes with strange humanoid affectations like hats or jewelry.
