Fires of Creation, Part III

"It'll take more than a little yuck to stop me!" Enlali shouts, voice full of conviction, steps full of goo. She repositions and takes a cumbersome swing.

Harskgun steps up and slashes at the creature with his sonic-infused blade, but he slips, almost falls, and completely misses the target.
(Attack: 1d20+6 = 7)

(Harskgun needs to give me a Fortitude save.)

Suddenly, Enlali finds herself beset by tentacles! Cue gratuitous Japanese!

Just kidding. They aren't that kind of tentacle. They do, however, appear to be feeding appendages, and deal 1 point of bleed damage.

Meanwhile, the ghelarn decides it's had quite enough of this 'being shot' business and two much larger tentacles launch forth from the carapace to beat on Manizei. One even hits! (4 damage)

You guys are up.

Dropping her musket down to a one-handed grip, Manizei closes in with her bladed claw hand, swiping at the creature trying to attack her with its tentacles.

Enlali stomps her feet at the goo and the tentacles to take a proper stance and slashes again.

(On her turn, of course.

Harskgun's action is on-hold until his player finds out what terrible thing befalls him due to that save.

Harskgun has spent enough time in the goo for the tentacles to find him as well. He and Enlali both take a point of bleed damage.

Manizei continues to aggro the ghelarn, which assaults her with the larger tentacles. Or tries to, anyway, as her armor successfully deflects both attacks.

Following through from her last miss, Enlali swiftly turns her bardiche in her hands and slashes up.

Niles snaps out of being perplexed by the jello-like substance on the floor, and fires a well-aimed shot at the creature.

Under the ferocious combined assault, the ghelarn splatters into purple alien giblets. 200 XP.

Anyone who wants to open that toolbox, give me a disable device check.

Beyond, you see stretched before you the vast indoor desert Sef spoke of. The strange, vaguely disconcerting vista is that of a sandy desert vally under a starless night sky, broken up here and there by bits of strange spiky shells or contorted, dead fronds that look like branches. It's fairly easy to make out a trail winding its way through the sands.

Niles immediately assesses the toolbox for traps (Perception: 1d20+9= 22). If he does not detect any, he will then proceed to attempt to open it (Disable Device, burning 1 point of inspiration for +1d6: 1d20+8+1d6= 22).

He also examines the entrance to the desert and tries to recall if he's seen or read about something similar before (Knowledge (Engineering), with Technologist feat: 1d20+8+1d6= 26).

The toolbox contains a few mundane hammers and wrenches and the like, albeit crafted with strange otherworldly aesthetics (treat as a set of masterwork artisan's tools). It also has a set of grippers (TG pg. 47), a black e-pick (TG pg. 43), and two batteries . (TG pg.39)

Niles can determine little about the desert itself, but close inspection of the ceiling, although obscured by the darkness, reveals it to be a dark glaucite dome. Based on prior observations hinting at a controlled environment, it is possible the desert was artificially created as an approximation of a specific ecosystem for any number of potential reasons.

Niles snags the Black E-Pic without expecting complaint, and hands the gripper and batteries off to Harskagun.
