If google isn't morally motivated, then this whole thing has nothing whatsoever to do with China or Chinese people. Its a public relations coup that has succeeded in giving Google a priceless torrent of positive press.
The whole Chinese expedition probably went something like this:
Google Exec 1: We need to get into China, they have like 300 million internet users. It'll be a goldmine.
Google Exec 2: Yeah, but China has a really bad rep about censorship and whatnot. It'll hurt our image to work there.
Exec 1: Don't worry, i've got a plan...
Press Release: We're going into China to change the evil and oppressive system gradually from the inside!
--Later--
Exec 1: Baidu is cleaning up! We've got to get out of here or we'll just lose more money.
Exec 2: Great, I know the perfect way to spin it.
Press Release: Google cannot work with this evil censorship any longer! China must immediately stop censoring or we'll LEAVE!
--fin--
Im not sure if this is entirely accurate, but it does explain all of Google's actions very well without any irrational behavior on their part. As I said before, its actions are also explained well if you think that Google is acting entirely morally.

It's amusing how many moral dilemmas this writer can present through a story as simple as eating

Re: The News Corner
You sound like an alcoholic western (imperialist) =9
That's technically not the way to say it either in Chinese. Oh the language is correct, just too formal in grammar =9. Alcohol culture, despite how much it's tied into the business market, is still surprisingly casual in a sense.
