Custom Incarnum

INCARNUM OF CHROMA
The Incarnum of Chroma originates from sentient spirits found on the planet dubbed the "Soulspark", which are incorporeal beings that simply look like colored motes with tendrils extending from them (see MoI for soulspark picture, but obviously don't expect those stats). After the colonization ship crash landed on the planet, the colonists discovered that any humanoid, and possibly any living creature, may form a bond where the Soulspark merges into one, granting special magically abilities which, while far from the power of Penthiae's magics, are far more enduring and lasting. The Soulsparks vary in color, which typically represents their alignment and temperment. Different Soulsparks have different reasons for bonding with humanoids, but typically it is said because they revel and love the taste of strong emotions, with the emotion most preferred differing between Soulsparks. Some Soulsparks, particularly lawful ones, have a tendency to forge a lasting contract with a single person, and it was these contracts that later lead to the birth of the Incarnum blooded.

The Incarnum blooded races, Azurins and Dusklings, were mostly the product of a lasting contract between a humanoid and a soulspark which persisted for long enough, and was triggered by some occurrence, that caused them to fuse into one being. Based on historical records, the triggering event seem to vary from person to person, but it often involved either an overwhelming emotional burst, an attempt to channel incarnum from the spirit beyond safe power limits, and when the contractor was on the verge of death. During the Warring States Period and the Unification Period, the Incarnum races were the pioneers of Incarnum magic and magitech, the very power that both escalated the war's intensity and helped bring its final conclusion. However, in less than a century after the Unification, it was discovered compulsory magics with invested essentia added could be used to control Incarnum being even not in real form, including both spirits and the incarnum-blooded swordbonders who shed their body to become one with an item. As Incarnum was already considered the most efficient and limitless source of power on the planet even back then, several enterprises saw the opportunity for tremendous profits and quickly made a dash to see if they could control incarnum channelers. However, it was quickly discovered that Incarnum spirits that were robbing of their freedom and "set to work" quickly "died"; however the same could not be said of the Incarnum-blooded beings. This slowly led to the Enslavement Era, where criminal corporations secretly enslaved the Incarnum-blooded in order to mass produce Incarnum-magic products at minimum costs despite the fact that slavery was banned ages ago back on Caerleon. In the beginning the government fought back, but with the passing of time the organizations quickly brought out the officials, bribed by the tremendous amounts of money Incarnum slavery was capable of making.

The technology used for enslaving Incarnum-blooded beings evolved over its centuries of use. The current equipment involves using a special magitech device which, upon touching an Incarnum-blooded individual, forcibly separates their spirit from their body, dematerializing the body into additional incarnum energy and absorbing both it and the spirit. It is the exact same process that Swordbonders spend entire careers perfecting, except this process achieve by force from an external control source and capable of being performed on any Incarnum wielder. Unsurprisingly, the process is said to be extremely painful to the Incarnum user, and many who attempted to resist the device were either driven to insanity or simply had their will crushed, either of which is just as good, if not better, from a slaver's perspective. The Incarnum spirit are then stored into a capsule small enough to fit in one's palm, which was imbued with powerful compulsion magics that could be controlled by any user. Ironically, the incarnum energy first obtained from dematerializing the body also becomes the initial essentia invested into the capsule's compulsion magic, allowing it to enslave the spirit within. Incarnum Slave Capsules, as they're called, can then be used with a wide range of magitech machinery and incarnum equipment as a power source.
