History:
Teodor was born in Kharva to a blacksmith, Zalbag Vormav and his wife Alyce. He was a wiry, bookish boy who always managed to get one of the other boys to take the fall for a prank. In his mid-teens, he attempted to run off rather than be apprenticed with his father, as he was clumsy and unskilled with his hands, not to mention too weak for the bellows. Unfortunately for him, his father had other ideas. Zalbag knocked Teodor out with one massive blow to the head as he tried to sneak out in the night. After two miserable, smoky years as an apprentice, Teodor managed to run away with a caravan bound for Darion. During the trip, he worked as a guard and general go-fer in exchange for food and a place to sleep. By the time they reached Darion, Teodor had been offered a position with one of the merchants, Dycedarg Beoulve, a luxuries trader in need of an accountant. After a couple years, he managed to get them to sponsor him at college. Teodor spent two years at college learning all sorts of things, from math to history to arcane magic to sociology, but his academic love quickly showed itself to be technology and artifice. Given his intellectual gifts, yet utter ineptitude at actually making stuff, he managed to score a fellowship at a more theoretically oriented institution in Naralan. Surrounded by the technology of the gnomes, his year there passed all too quickly and he was forced to return to Dycedarg's company.

After a few more months, the day after Teodor discovered some...irregularities in the books that he could not reconcile, a knock sounded at his door. The police had come to arrest him for the embezzlement that had been reported at the company, since all the evidence pointed to him. There was even a carefully placed stash of gold under a floorboard. As he was led away, one of the other accountants, a shady little halfling by the name of Cal, who had always been jealous of Teodor for getting to go to college, took a few minutes to just stand there and smirk. Teodor knew the little shorty bastard had set him up, but the circumstantial evidence was just too strong. As they took him away, he pulled a knife out of his shirt and stabbed a guard in a desperate escape attempt that really didn't get him anywhere. He was hauled up before a judge and given the maximum sentence: execution. He thought this was just a little harsh, until he found out just how much he had "stolen": 6,000,000GP. At that point, he was determined to escape, as he had no intention of dying for a crime he didn't even commit, much less the one he did.

On the way to his execution, he attempted to make a break for it, but was quickly corraled by a flying warhammer to the base of his skull. As his eyes rolled up into the back of his skull, he thought he heard a guard say "Resourceful bugger, I'll give 'im that. Mebbe we can use 'im after all..." When he came to, he was astounded to be alive, for obvious reasons. A thin, dapper man, barely visible in the darkness, offered him a choice: Exile to Norinth as an informer to the southern nations, or death for real, as an illusion of his death was shown while he was unconscious. Seeing little choice in the matter, Teodor accepted the exile. Some fairly comprehensive enchantments were cast on him to ensure his loyalty, one of which he recognized as a geas, another seemed to be a spell to hide the auras and make them appear as simple buffs. After a few weeks of recuperation and a year or so of intense training, he was given some food and supplies and unceremoniously kicked out of the country.

The journey across the fens was moderately horrid, as he had to dodge orc tribes, the occaisonal dragon, and even a few taint elementals. Upon reaching Norinth territory proper (rather than just de facto Norinth territory), he managed to gain entrance without being killed on sight by trading a few juicy tidbits he'd been given for precisely that purpose. He spent several months eking out a living, passing nearly useless tidbits to his contact, a necromancer named Mohs who was actually an Archeron agent, until he decided to join the Norinth military. Drawing on his experiences shifting blame, he pinned a few not-so-minor infractions on some of his superiors, in addition to simply being good at what he did. After a year or so, he felt he'd earned enough trust to go for a shot at the Shadow Guards. From there, he could get some real information to pass on. Unfortunately, he was wrong and was denied a spot. As he waited for his chance to try again, he tinkered with items in hopes of actually managing to craft something. With some luck (and some stolen potions), he actually managed to make a headband that not only enhanced his intelligence, but also gave him a store of knowledge about advanced technology.

In a desperate attempt to prove his loyalty, he denounced one of his comrades as a spy, knowing full well the torture that would await him in the pits. The gambit succeeded, and he was accepted into the Guards in a counter-intelligence role. He moved through the ranks reasonably quickly, still passing on information, particularly everything he could learn about this "Imperium" that was spreading rumors about the Lich King not being human and other "subversive" topics. Teodor didn't really care either way, but his commanding officer, Virza, had several passionate, hourlong, rants on the subject to the troops. During his time in the Guards, he participated in a number of sting operations against Misalin operatives that had been discovered, as well as the ever present undeclared intelligence war with the Citadel Elites. He even took part in a few operations to wipe out some especially nasty Fens denizens that were looking like they might rampage into Norinth.

Several months after a major op in which a CE tried to introduce black lotus extract into a Norinth reservoir, Teodor was presented with Finsternis, a shortsword of a type used by the Guards' best. This promotion gave him access to some very sensitive information, as well as being sent as lead on some insertion missions into Archeron and Airindale. Teodor became known as a commander who got the mission accomplished, albeit generally with higher casualties. On one instance, he was sent into Naralan to destroy a factory. He was the only survivor of the mission, yet he managed to complete the mission successfully, as far as anyone in Norinth could tell. In truth, nearly all the damage dealt was cosmetic and he had killed his squad himself, as his Archeron contact, a nebbish little wizard named Mohs, had ordered.

Around this time, the Imperium began to take over Norinth directly. Mohs was picked up fairly quickly, leaving Teodor without a contact to the Citadel. Virza dragged him into the resistance against the Imperium, not entirely against his will. Their little band was fairly successful at destroying supply depots and guerilla warfare, occasionally ambushing a patrol, but eventually found themselves hounded into the Fens. While hiding in a small cave in the northeastern Fens, they were found by a patrol in force that wiped out most of the unit, Virza included. At this point, the unit scattered, with each member heading alone for the Fens and safety. Teodor found a little hut inhabited by an old man who nursed him back to health, as he had suffered an arm wound during the escape. Teodor then made for Archeron, teleporting to a Norinth insertion point. He took the guards by surprise, quickly slaughtering them. He reconnected with the Citadel, undergoing a few nasty tests to prove his identity.

The Citadel assigned him to the leader of the Kharvan branch, High-Captain Konev. Konev was, at least to quote him, pleasantly surprised to see Teodor alive after Mohs died. Konev wanted Teodor to assassinate a couple of ambitious Kharvan politicians and blame it on Norinth. Teodor accepted, seeing a way to get into the Citadel's good graces. The target, a noble whose reach far exceeded his grasp and was loudly distraught over this, was dead within two days, as was his escort. Teodor was unhappy about it and refused any further assassinations. After the ensuing argument with Konev, Teodor was ordered to link up with a group of Misalin rebels in Blackbog to try and get a less...fanatical leader that Archeron could live with.

Personality:
Teodor is not a very good person. By the same token, he isn't necessarily evil, either. He simply looks out for himself first, doing whatever is necessary to survive, whether he likes it or not. Or if the pay's good enough. Neither Norinth nor Archeron has much claim on his loyalties, though he prefers Archeron simply because of the weather and general quality of life. As long as he stays away from Darion. Blackmail is one of his favorite tactics to ensure that either someone else can take a fall for him or will steer clear in the first place. He is resourceful and intelligent, though not always in constructive ways. Teodor has an odd charisma about him that draws people, despite his obvious amorality. He is close-lipped about his past, rarely sharing even small tidbits with others. Information is everything to him, either as ammunition or as the sort of random trivia that occaisonally becomes useful. Despite his intelligence, he has a tendency to lack basic common sense at times.

Appearance:
Teodor is short and skinny, though he has a certain wiry strength. He wears black robes over his (also black) armor, heightening his sallow complexion. He has a nasty scar at his temple from Zalbag's blow and is missing a few teeth. His black hair is unkempt and close-cut. His beady little brown eyes dart around his vicinity for any little tidbits of information he can pick up

Party members:
Dmitri: Teodor doesn't quite trust Dmitri, though he respects his intelligence and skills. Teodor also isn't used to working closely with another intelligence officer, so there's a certain amount of institutional competition.

Derovarr: Teodor finds Derovarr's knightly honor and continual speeches of virtue tiresome, yet he cannot deny their effectiveness at motivating the troops. The Misalinian is also a little too perceptive for Teodor's taste, making it very difficult to slip things by him.

Jens: Teodor hasn't really formed much of an opinion about Jens, other than that he is a walking Imperium artillery barrage. The mage seems to be fairly touchy, however, so caution is warranted in any manipulations.

Kati: Teodor thinks Kati makes a wonderful symbol, if not that great a leader. She is at least more pragmatic than Derovarr, though her reticence makes her even less approachable about less than purely ethical methods.

Ulrich: Teodor thinks Ulrich is a great guy to have around, simply for his uncanny ability to keep everyone around him alive. Personally, he's even less approachable than Derovarr thanks to the strength of his faith, yet he is less perceptive. Subtlety is in order here.

Samael: Teodor feels Samael is a good tactician, though he's a bit of a know-it-all at times. Less perceptive than Derovarr, but he's a little more approachable about the dirtier side of intel.

Klaus: A good archer and handy for disrupting spellcasters, but lacks any real other use, especially now that Teodor has sensors.

for no misconception on the Shadow Guards, some information (what I have worked out THUS far):

The Shadow Guards of Norinth, commonly referred as the Shadowmasters by the south (they fail to see how the forward elements of this unit is GUARDING anything), is divided into three groups: Espionage (& terrorism, to an extent), Counter-Intelligence, & Law Enforcement.

The Law Enforcement group is by far the side most unaffected by evil intentions. Most of their members are Lawful Neutral or even Lawful Good. They're trained in the Capital (lost my old notes, need to make up a new name) in skills of martial, investigative, and spellcasting. Many of them are capable of casting divine spells with the aid and attunement to Nepthas, the Orb of Souls (Norinth Artifact). They mostly deal with criminal offenses, and work closely with the Blacklore Guards to make sure no necromancer is running amok in Norinth ignoring the laws of undead use. Lower-ranking enforcers are stationed in every major city & town, while higher-echelon enforcers, due to their rarity, often travels around and are dispatched to needed locations to take on a case. These enforcers are welcomed by the population wherever they go, mostly because apart from carrying the weight of the law, their healings arts is beyond any other caster and are willing to aid in curing any diseases in the area after their duties. (Due to the trade embargo on Norinth by the south, they do not claim benefits from Misalin potions that are sold across all southern nations).

Counter-intelligence is more brutal, always trying to stop the work of southern intelligence agencies in inciting revolts in Norinth in an attempt to break apart the northern nation and leave it weaker. Misalin intelligence has a tendency to make the undead go berserk and attack the necromancers controlling them, an act the Norinth culture finds unacceptable, but perfectly justifiable in Misalinian views. The Archeron intelligence units are far worse, and many elements of it does not mind lower their standards to cause problems for Norinth. Spreading diseases and sabotaging granaries is perfectly acceptable in their book. Thus it is no surprise that the CI ShadowGuards holds no sympathies towards foreign spies they capture.

The Espionage, or Forward elements of the Shadow Guards is its worst. They are spies with a bitter hatred towards the south for making their people suffer so in the northern tundra. To respond to what Archeron Citadels do in Norinth, the ShadowGuards committee every form of terrorism in Archeron, for which the Citadels then pay in kind (causing quite a vicious cycle). For the most part however, the Shadow Guards believes the killing of civilians as 'worthless effort' and not because of morale values. They focus their sabotage and assassination mostly on government infrastructure, both military and civil, for it is these people who first exiled their ancestors to the desolate land and continue to seek in making their lives miserable. .

Skills updated, Spell/Prayerbook redone, crisis partially averted. Changed self-crafted item to the headband, since I have the spells for that. Also changed AC bonus on bracers to dodge, but was unable to come up with a solution for the save bonus.

btw Dave, regarding the Imperial Encryption matters I was talking to you last time.
you can technically acquire the info to get pass by means of Legend Lore or Visions spell... I mean you have the item right in front of you, after all.

you'll still need to invent the spell, and that'll be at least lvl6... or give your situation, I'm tempted to end up having it become a custom lvl7 SLA.

Technomagical Interface, Teodor's added to the custom spells list.
For creating this spell from Teodor however, I require the following for Teodor's to retrain in
5 ranks in decipher script - encryption purposes
the focus Teodor will need craft himself since no1 else has a clue to how do it, thus meaning you'll need to burn 2,500gps and 200XP on that.
given the time you've had, I guess you can assume that's completed already.

by the way Dave, I don't think Legend Lore actually does what we thought it did, and certainly not for this scenario. Mainly cause it says: "If the person, place, or thing is not of legendary importance, you gain no information." Sorry but protocols for communications is certainly NOT legendary, not matter not important it may be on a common everyday deal.
Given the power of high level divination, I would rule that Visions spell can obtain the information you need for this situation, meaning you need 5 castings of visions to perform this... and thus -500XP. You'll also need to use the Analyze Dweomer spell, so I suggest you grab the focus for that.

Furthermore, a few comments about your char sheet:
Speak Language[Imperial] 1rank - denied, you don't pick up languages at that insane rate...
Knowledge(sociology) 5 ranks+6Int=+11 - I believe we've determined that Local covers this, but at a penalty since old day sociology isn't quite the same as psychology/sociological studies of today.



now, for the thing you do want, this is by no means a final draft of it's stats:

Aegis EMSG (Electromagnetic Shield Generator)
--This device comes in five parts, the primary generator which is designed to be worn on the back, and it's four connected shield regulator/emitters which are designed to be worn at the shoulders (covered by the Imperials' insignia) and on boots.
Shield Points: 1000
Shield Deflection: +10 Deflect AC, DR 10/-, resist 10 (see nextline)
Shield Absorption: DR 100/resonance and resistance 100. However, the first 5 points of damage taken are not drained from shield points. Even if a resonance weapon is used, the first 5 points of damage are still absorbed but not detracted from SP.
Standard Setting: Will block ballistics, force, and energy damage (including fire, electricity, and sonic). Melee attacks, thrown projectiles, and slow projectile weapons (including bows/crossbows) are not blocked by the EMS, but orbs, rays, and most spells travels at a high enough speed to trigger the shields' response, which often splatters effects like acid/cold orbs prematurely and reduces their effects. Your own weapons are not affected by this, but your own spells are affected unless you're using a casting focus-weapon to channel through.
Guard Setting: Will block everything from melee attacks to the air you need to breathe, furthermore any movement made with this setting active drains shield power... obviously designed only for short duration emergencies.
Recharge: The shield may be recharged by ejecting the power-pack and inserting a new one (a full-round reload action). The shields themselves then requires 5 rounds to charge up, whether from a reload or startup.
Weight: 10lbs
# yeah, kinda complicated to use.
# example, if you were hit by a 135 dmg fire orb, 100 damage will be blocked by the shield, which drains 90 shield points, and the remaining 35 damage pours through to hit you.

You have: 2 functional EMSG (plus full set of emitters for each) and 5 functional power-packs (burnt a few for testing purposes).


also, last night I mentioned the plasma rifles which you could try figuring out next. The other ones I forgot to mention is the Gravitonic Flight Engine (a large backpack) and the Resonance Field Emitter.
