Backstory

Dmitri was born into a family with a long and proud tradition of career military service. His father, Vladimir Revmiren, a retired Field-Captain in the Air Dragon Knights, was the only surviving child from four siblings, each of which died while serving their country in the wars with Airindale. Vladimir pushed all three of his sons into military service. The two older sons, Pyotr and Nikolai, both were well suited for military service. Pyotr, the eldest, by his father’s wishes joined the cavalry, and his distinguished service gained him a place among the Air Dragon knights. Nikolai, less suited to caring for animals and more suited to smashing things, enlisted in the infantry and became a member of an elite shock company. Dmitri, the youngest, was completely unsuited for combat, and additionally seemed completely uninterested in a military life. While his brothers were training for combat, Dmitri tended to spend most of his time associating with the dregs of the local youth. Attempted to salvage the situation somewhat, Vladimir had his son sent to the Academy of High Sorcery in Arcandia for training as a mage.

Dmitri did not enjoy his stay at the Academy. Although he was naturally talented at magic, the studious surroundings and harsh discipline did not agree with him. He quickly began neglecting his studies to explore the bowels of Arcandia, and began to get acquainted with the various guilds shady industry elements. He began taking espionage and magical support jobs for various factions within the city, associated more and more with the semi-criminal portions of the populace. He began devoting more effort to his studies, trying to gain give himself a boost for his “extra-curricular” activities. He was inducted first into Incantatrix and then Spellwarp Sniper training, both of which he excelled in. After graduation, he was planning on dedicating himself entirely to a career as a hired mage for the industrial guilds in Arcandia. However, a message from his father changed this.

Soon after graduation, Dmitri received a message informing him that his home had been attacked, his mother killed, and his father grievously wounded. Dmitri had teleported home within minutes, and his brothers, this being a time of relative peace, were able to take a leave of absence and arrive soon after. Vladimir had been gravely injured, and was under the effects of a variety of exotic curses and magical poisons and diseases. He was conscious, but in a state of delirium. When one of the priests trying to stabilize Vladimir reassured him that he was going to be teleported to Misalen to be treated by the best healers in Penthiae, he nearly panicked. Incredibly, Vladimir produced a rank insignia indicating him to be an active-duty High-Captain and gave the priests a direct order that he was not to be removed from Archeron, and further, no one but his immediate family and the priests were to be allowed in his presence. Dmitri, Pyotr, and Nikolai began trying to investigate the attack, but were curtly ordered to keep out of it by army officers. Pyotr and Nikolai were almost immediately recalled to active duty, despite the fact that there was absolutely no military conflict occurring and they had been initially granted a month of leave each. Dmitri, however, managed to stay around.

While attending his father at the temple late one night, a group of cloaked figures mounted a raid on it. An elite squad of Archeronian Special Forces that had been concealed in the temple fought them, and a small but vicious battle erupted. Dmitri fought with them, putting his training as a spellsniper and Incantatrix to its first true test, and by morning the beshadowed attackers had disappeared into the night. Over the course of the battle it become clear that the Archeronians stationed at the temple were not anything close to army regulars. After that, a company of elite shock troops constantly occupied the temple, and no further attacks occurred.

Over the course of several months of intensive care, Dmitri was with his father almost constantly. Over that period, Vladimir’s feverish ramblings revealed that he had been anything but peacefully retired. As his lucidity returned, Dmitri convinced him to reveal the entire story. Soon after his retirement, Vladimir was approached by Archeronian intelligence officers. His distinguished career and knack for finding creative solutions to problems had impressed them, and he was offered a rear-echelon position in the intelligence corps. Vladimir accepted, and quickly rose through the ranks, just as he had in the cavalry. Eventually, he became one of the architects of a scheme to infiltrate Norinth’s high command. The plan seemed to be a resounding success, and top-quality information began pouring in. However, the information from one of their agents began to consistently conflict with the information received from all the others. The Archeronians began to suspect that he had been compromised, and were preparing to take action, when Norinth retaliated. Using information from their own agents, combined with the intelligence gained from the compromised infiltrator, Norinth identified the officers in charge of the infiltration effort and determined to completely annihilate the entire operation. The Shadow Guards launched a concerted attack on the commanders, aiming to capture them and extract the identities of the other agents. Although Vladimir managed to fight them off, several other of the officers simply disappeared and the operation had to be called off and the agents extracted.

This entire episode shook Dmitri to his core. Although he had known at an intellectual level that such espionage took place between all the nations in Penthiae, the realization that there were Norinth agents inside Archeron, working towards their demise, was incredibly unnerving. Further, certain individuals among those Norinth spies had been responsible for the death of his mother and the catastrophic injury of his father. He also came to realize that, in the life he had been living until now, he was merely a pawn to the guilds, unable to really make any difference in the course of greater events. If he was going to be a faceless minion, he decided it should be for a higher cause than mere profit.

After Vladimir had completely recovered, Dmitri enlisted in the Citadel Elite training program. His experiences in training changed him somewhat, and after his graduation he threw himself into missions assisting City Guards and other Citadel Elites in cracking down on large-scale crime in Kharva. He was promoted again and again due to his leadership and investigative abilities, combined with his mastery of magic.

The high point in his career came when he was assigned as commander of a joint Kharva-Palmira task force assigned to eliminate Wraithlight, an organization from Palmira that had stolen a number of Kharvan Air Dragon eggs. Dmitri’s resounding success in the crackdown on Wraithlight led to his promotion to Chief Investigator of Starik and a personal thanks from the Governor-General.

Dmitri’s career in law enforcement was cut short by the outbreak of the Second Great Alliance War. Assigned to Dukir Pass in command of a company of war-wizards, with the rank of Blade-Captain. His skills as a spellsniper led to his defeat of several enemy mages, turning the tide of battle multiple times. Dmitri was awarded the rank of Flag-Captain for his distinguished service. After the disaster at Swiftwater, Dmitri’s unit retreated to the Purple Citadel, where re-organizations of the command structure led to his promotion to Field-Captain. However, the orcish attack on Klykov Keep caused Dmitri’s unit to be marched off to help defend there. On their way, the orcish blitz against northern Archeron forced his unit to be diverted to defend Galanin. Badly outnumbered by the enemy, Dmitri’s regiment began to crumble under the orc onslaught. Dmitri and his command squad confronted the enemy command group and were nearly wiped out, forcing him to call a retreat before the battle could become a complete rout. After the crushing defeat at Galanin, Dmitri was stationed along with the survivors of his regiment in Starik, until being reassigned to Port Carnia as the orcs began there march on Arcandia and Trelling. There he was assigned joint command of the remaining forces with Halfling Field-Captain Lavinia Greenhill.

On April 20th, Garris, the commander of the Archeronian forces at Trelling, informed Dmitri that the enemy was teleporting into the area just northwest of Trelling and was likely to mount an attack before dusk. Garris requested that Dmitri bring the reserve forces from Port Carnia up to Trelling to reinforce the city.

hey don't just link to what I posted <_<, fit it into your own writing. I did write it as a rough draft so its about as unrefined as it gets.

and I'm not sure I like the idea of dave's creation 'The Blood' terrorist group getting used to excessively. I mean yes given their racial beliefs Airindale elves could very easily become extremists, but at the same time, such actions are definitely against the law and Airindale is a lawful nation (although still plagued by corruption of the nobles), so a group like The Blood should not end up growing TOO large.

not to mention Kharvan is the farthest of the Archeron provinces and contributes the least to the Airindale-Archeron wars, so they really wouldn't be as much of a target. Frankly the most reactive organization that resorts to terrorism would still be the Shadow Guards of Norinth (mostly because they have a strong enough backing and resources). It's much more likely to build a story that you somehow attracted their attention.

a few things:

Wings of Air will not affect a fly speed that was the result of a spell. In essence, you cannot enhance a spell-effect that's allowing you to fly. I believe this puts much more emphasis on class abilities that grants flying :)

I haven't had the time (due to all my #@$@# assignments) to work out the weapon I always give away for free yet. As a matter of fact I need to design the 2+ separate classes for items Archeron uses for familiar-weapons.

HOWEVER, add an Infiltration Staff (my standard, look under Custom Equipment [i think]) to your equipment for free :P.
I'm not sure if you have the feats to afford it, but given the way you play I highly suggest grabbing the right feats to make use of a spellbook :P

oh, and Misalin equipment are the only ones allowed to have any kind of 'sacred' bonus :P

When installed, the wielder may activate the rod of absorption and use its functions as if holding it. Spells cast using magic reserve from a rod of absorption may be channeled through the staff.
• The staff or rod automatically levitates in its height when released in midair.
• The wielder may resize the staff to a rod as a swift action.
