Caelotheir (Gating Arrow of Dusk), Dhouath (Falcon Lance) Class House Ansrikyvin Air Combat Staff
––Quarterstaff composed of refined mithral with an enlarged mace-like head on one end. Six vertical slotted slits are spread evenly around the head, with three smaller slots sized to fit wands, and three larger slots sized to fit rods or scepters. Three lines of intricately carved ancient Elven magic runes run down the staff. A large bright red ruby is laid into the center of the staff, partially encased by mithral with its two side hemispheres revealed. Miniature chains of lightning could be seen flashing across the inside of the ruby gem. A moderate quartz crystal is encased above it on the haft, surrounded by four small quartz crystals.
Weapon: Mithral mastercraft [+1] Quarterstaff
Weapon Enhancement: +5 Defending Eager [MIC] Skillful [CArc]/+5 Spellstrike [MIC] Warning [MIC]
Focus Enhancement: +8 Focus[Evocation] Horizon
Caster Level: 25
Special Abilities:
• Caelotheir is immune to all transmutation spells (e.g. Disintegrate) as if automatically defeated by SR. This ability may be lowered or raised as a standard action.
• Caelotheir may install up to three wands, plus three rods or scepters in its frontal section. Installing a rod, wand, or scepter takes a move action, while extracting it takes a free action. Installed rods, wands, and scepters cannot be activated individually.
• Caelotheir may install an additional rod at the bottom of the staff. This slot is designed for the attachment of a rod of absorption (or similar version) and will not function for any other rod. When installed, the wielder may activate the rod of absorption and use its functions as if holding it. Spells cast using magic reserve from a rod of absorption may be channeled through the staff.
• The wielder may activate all installed wands and sceptors with a single full-round action (elven command word). All triggered spells must target a single creature or position. All spells triggered uses their wielder’s caster level and saving throw DC, as if cast from a staff.
• The wielder may activate all installed metamagic rods to boost a single channeled spell.
• The wielder gains +30 competence bonus to concentration checks made to cast spells, and +60 competence bonus to spellcraft checks made to cast epic spells.
• The wielder may resize the staff to a rod as a move action. When shrunken, Caelotheir may still be used as a spell focus and spell-trigger wands (although they lose the staff effect). Installed rods and scepters cannot be triggered in rod form.
• The staff or rod automatically levitates in its height when released in midair.
• Caelotheir’s core may project an illusionary spellbook with infinite pages. Even though the spellbook isn’t physical, spells may be inscribed into the spellbook magically by casting it into Caelotheir’s core (even if the normal spell range is personal). The spell does not produce its normal effects, instead its information is stored in Caelotheir, and may be projected along with the spellbook. Since it’s a projected image of data, Caelotheir may organize the spellbook in any manner (including not showing certain spells). The spellbook’s spells is kept in runic symbolic writing (see Geometer’s Book of Geometry Class Ability – Complete Arcane)

Spell-like Abilities (can be powered with invested spell slots of the same level):
• Cure Critical Wounds (3/day) – Lvl4 spell slot
• Detect Magic (at will)
• Detect Scrying (constantly active)
• Read Magic (at will)
• Repair Critical Damage [SC](3/day) – Lvl4 spell slot

Intelligent Weapon Abilities:
• Item Familiar (Improved Sapience x 3, Spell Use)
• Intelligence 20, Wisdom 16, Charisma 20
• 60ft Sight & Hearing, Empathic & Telepathic (120ft) Communication, Speak/Read Languages (Aquan, Auran, Common, Draconic, Elven, Sylvan)
• Skills:
o Concentration: +28 (28ranks), +30 Casting
o Decipher Script: +20 (5int, 15ranks)
o Knowledge[Arcana]: +33 (5int, 28ranks)
o Knowledge[History]: +20 (5int, 15ranks)
o Knowledge[Nature]: +20 (5int, 15ranks)
o Knowledge[Nobility]: +15 (5int, 10ranks)
o Knowledge[Religion]: +20 (5int, 15ranks)
o Knowledge[the Planes]: +20 (5int, 15ranks)
o Spellcraft: +33 (5int, 28ranks), +60 Epic

Legacy Abilities:
• Aero Swathe (Boost): Command word activation by expending a fifth level spell slot. Caelotheir utilizes its bound air elementals to envelope the wielder in a mantle of dense cyclonic air, imposing a penalty of –1 per four caster levels (–5 max) on all attack rolls and weapon damage rolls while in the air (effectively +5 AC & DR 5/– while in midair). In addition, thrown and projectile weapons (but not siege projectiles) targeting the wielder have a 50% chance of being deflected. These bonuses do not stack with the benefits of Air Mastery. This boost lasts for up to 1 round per caster level.
• Aeroblast Barrel (Mode): Command word activation by expending a ninth level spell slot. Caelotheir proceeds to open a portal within itself to the elemental plane of air, drawing in power and firing off a burst of super-compressed air alongside each evocation attack spell cast through the staff. When used with any spell, the compressed air burst interferes with movement of targets caught within area (or a single burst, if it’s a multi-burst spell like Fire Storm), imposing a penalty of –4 AC, –4 reflex saves, and negates evasion (reduce improved evasion to evasion, does not work against evasion gained from cover or shielding spells like Deflection) against the spell. If the boosted spell has the [air] or [cold] descriptor, the blast of air augments the destruction of the spell, maximizing any damage dealt. If the boost spell has the [fire] descriptor, the compressed air fuels the fiery burst and causing the spell to become explosive (as the metamagic effect). This mode may be maintained for 1 round per caster level.
• Storm Impulse (Boost): Command word activation by expending a seventh level spell slot. Caelotheir wraps visible cyclonic bands of bound elemental air around the wielder’s arms and ankles and with four small pairs translucent shimmering wings of elemental air and force energy. The effect provides fly speed equal to 20ft per caster level (300ft maximum) with perfect maneuverability. The speed granted by this ability is not subject to further increment through enhancement. This boost lasts for up to 1 minute per caster level.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pron surfed, weak and weary,
Over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore',
While I clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour,
"'Tis not possible!", I muttered, "Give me back my free hardcore!

Alright, I do believe I've cooked up a backstory for this guy.

************************
Backstory: Centuries ago, the brass dragon Aaxeiazariel fell in love with a beautiful elven maiden who lived by the river. For several decades, their romance continued, but time and circumstance forced them apart. This elf happened to belong to the house Ruapthya, the guard house of the elven nation of Airindale, and for several generations, the dragon's bloodline continued to provide Airindale with some of the finest soldiery in recent memory.

However, exceptions exist in every family. Any way one looked at it, Anastrianna Ruapthya was weak, sickly, and wholly unsuited for military action. To compound the problem, she had barely reached adulthood when the Archeron/Airindale War of 30 years ago broke out. The family consensus was to send her off to "stay out of the way."

As Misalin was the closest thing to an ally Airindale had in the war (to say nothing of its famed medical prowess), it struck Anastrianna as a safe place to go, where her lack of combat prowess would not be such an issue. And it was there that she met the human architect Matthias von Buumstic. The two fell in love and eventually married. The family back in Airindale was not pleased. The head of her branch of the family, though he really did not like the prospect of his daughter marrying a human, reasoned (some have attributed this to psychological denial) that Matthias might just be able to give some health to his daughter, and that in a hundred years or less he'd be dead anyway, and she could come back home and make a nice respectable elven marriage.

But it was not to work out that way. Though Anastrianna made it through her first two childbirths without incident, the third came in one of her periods of illness and eventually killed her. After this, what little communication was had with the family in Airindale ceased. The man and his three children were on their own.

A few years ago, Jens von Buumstic (Matthias and Anastrianna's eldest son), applied for cleric training in the Church of Misalin. It wasn't long, however, before his budding sorcerous powers and tendency toward pyromania got him reassigned to warmage training. It was tedious, albiet useful, training, and to liven up the downtime between drills, Jens started studying the language of his fabled ancestor, and the power that lay within. Needless to say, this tended to both make training easier and make the half-elf stand out among his fellow students, and in short order he found himself back at the Church for the course of his dreams: Pyromancer training. He excelled in his studies both there and in his continued Draconic language studies. Jens advanced through the training program quickly, even earning a special distinction recognizing his skills with fire, and graduated at the top of his class...

...just in time for the latest monstrous invasion of Misalin, a situation that practically begged young Jens to test his magical mettle against it.

Jens was to quickly lose his youthful romantic vision of battle. The next few months were spent along the Simming River, exchanging spells of destruction with Norinthian forces. It dragged on and on, and seemed as if it would never end. Finally it did, and Jens was part of the offensive to retake the northern half of the country, and wound up in Winchester, recently transferred to Lady Gant's unit for magical artillery duties, awaiting the orcish counterattack.

Party relations
**************************

Kati: Jens harbors a secret love for Kati, which he does his dead-level best to keep well hidden. After all, being known to hold romantic feelings for a superior officer is not exactly good for one's career. Despite this, his feelings cause him to reserve his strongest loyalty for the object of his affection. He will follow Kati's commands to the letter, and will back her and her choices in the event of any politcal intrigue. He wishes so badly it hurts that she would pay more attention to him and less to that damned marshal.

Speaking of whom, with the rise of Derovarr to supreme command position in the Grand Duchy's forces, Jens has had to think long and hard about where his loyalties truly lie. Especially with the plans in the works to restore Kati to her family title, his true alliegance shows some signs of being called into question in the near future. Ultimately, however, he remains undeterred. Even if she does not notice him, she remains Jens' first, an in his mind true, commander. Jens dearly hopes that he will never be forced to choose between Kati and the others, but if that decision ever has to be made, there is little doubt in Jen's mind what his answer will be.

Derovarr: Jens used to hate Derovarr, because he percieved him to be a tad too close to his precious Kati. Having since learned that this is not in fact the case, his attitude has changed considerably. As that was the only real thing coming in between them, Jens has actually begun to somewhat like Derovarr. The man can make his spells harder to resist with one of his sainted auras and is not above having a nice drink with his men. In short, better this guy as commander than, say, Ulrich.

Jens has recently noticed that Derovarr is not quite what he pretends to be. Derovarr has proven most reluctant to discuss this, and Jens does not intend to pursue this line of inquiry. Doesn't really matter to him, and only concerns him because it might matter to Ulrich et al.

Derovarr's recent promotion to commander of the movement has given Jens cause for much thought. And with this thought, some private doubts have begun to resurface. Though LORD Derovarr's qualities are not in doubt, he seems to not quite realize that unlike him, most people cannot stand toe to toe with the likes of Miros or Tristan, nor does he ever seem to question the wisdom of taking on the entire universe all at once.

Ranmor: Jens has had a drink or two with Ranmor in his time, and finds him to be a friendly man against whom he has no particular grudge. He occasionally finds himself mildly envious of Ranmor's ability to soak up punishment, but likes him a great deal.

Graamros: Jens admires Graamros for his technological savvy, and cannot help but like the gnome's earnest, hardworking nature. He finds his creations fasinating and thinks of Graamros' ability to craft items as invaluable.

EDIT: Graamros has fallen, frozen to death by one of the enemy frost mages. Jens deeply mourns the noble gnome's passing.

Samael: Jens is mildly jealous of Samael. Not only is the warlock one of the luckiest mages Jens has ever seen, but his tactical brilliance has earned Samael the rank of Major, superior to Jens, despite the warlock's being the 'new kid'. That said, Jens cannot help but respect Samael's ability to earn acceptance (or as close to it as is forthcoming) in Misalin, despite his warlock nature, and feel that somehow he must have earned this promotion, considering his effort and the discrimination he's likely to have experienced prior to this. Especially compared to that pompous brownnoser Derovarr.

EDIT: Alas, poor Samael has fallen as well. The loss of such a good tactician is a great loss to the team, and the loss of such a good man is a great loss to the world.

EDIT #2: Samael has returned to the group, having been raised. All is well once more.

Ulrich: Jens has mixed feelings with regard to Ulrich. The party Komissar has been sent by the Church, which raises all manner of red flags. On the other hand, while most political officers are useless, this one can work healing miracles the likes of which Jens has never seen before. It takes a special kind of medical genius to effortlessly save a man from being turned into hamburger by an angry bugbear, and Ulrich is just such a man.

Karhedros: Karhedros embodies everything that is wrong with elves, and at times makes Jens mildly embarrassed to be related to them. Sure, he's an excellent defensive caster, and can perform tactical spells, but when casting said spells seems a little too eager to dump all the "heavy lifting" of the spell on Jens, and besides which, Karhedros is the physical embodiment of elves' snooty, elitist attitude. Jens will not soon forget the pure-blood bastard's greeting of "Oh, look! A mongrel!"

EDIT: Just when Karhedros was strating to prove useful, not the least in that he might know something about Jens' mother, he went and died. Typical.

Dmitri: Dmitri's been around for a while, and has given Jens no reason to dislike him thus far. Still, Jens can't quite shake the feeling that he's up to something somehow, though he has no idea what it could possibly be.

EIDT: Following the costly battle at Trias, Dmitri has disappeared, presumed captured or killed. Jens honestly is not quite sure what to make of this development.

Teodor: If Ulrich raised red flags, this guy's made of the things. He's sneaky, has a working knowledge of Imperium technology, and no matter what is said to the contrary seems a bit too Norinthian to be entirely trustworthy. Jens will have to keep an eye open when Teodor's around.

Klaus: "Das Boot" is an unknown quantity. Jens knows little about him except that he specializes in prescison attacks. In other words, a very good man to stick close to, seeing as precision is Jens' weak point.
