Orders and Organizations

Postby Mr_Praetorian » Wed Aug 10, 2011 5:19 pm

Lists still being populated.

Terminology:
Holy Warrior: Defined as a character of any class who serves in a religious cause.

Knightly Orders
A Knightly Order is typically a group of warriors (typically Paladins and Cavaliers) who have banded together to promote justice or some other general lawful objective. It was not until within two hundred years or so ago that these Orders were mandated to be separate of nation of nobility. This mandate is referred to as the Artorian Proclamation, and is named after Lady Artoria Arastarte, a Knight Vindicator renowned for her justice and wisdom who was put to death by her King for refusing an order to attack one of her Order's own outposts. The articles of the Proclamation (summarized) are as follows:

1. No recognized Order shall be under the rule of, or answer to any noble line if prudence dictates otherwise.

2. No recognized Order shall set aside willing aspirants on the bases of low standing of heredity or grievances committed by ancestors.

3. No Knight of standing within a recognized Order is obliged to suffer a despot.

4. No Knight of standing within a recognized Order is obliged to answer the call of a lord or lady to muster for war.

5. No Knight of standing within a recognized Order will strike another such Knight without due cause.

However, not every Knight felt obliged to suffer the Proclamation, and there are still Orders that operate without following some or any of its tenants.

Monastic Orders
Warrior-Monk orders are typically comprised of Monks and Fighters. If oriented around a faith, these warriors are more fanatical and foolhardy than fellow priests.

Guilds
Guildmasters drive the economy of The Great Continent from coast to coast.

Knights of the Sepulcher: “Paladin Order” in service to the lands of Khasgara.

Knights the Scepter: As the only internationally recognized order that still draws only from the nobility, the Knights of the Scepter find allies few and far apart. Even the Order of the Exarch finds it difficult to stand with “ foppish, misguided nobles who launch expeditions in accordance of whim”. Many consider the days of this order to be numbered, as nearly 75% of it was wiped out during the major conflict in its home region.

Knights Vindicator: Originally formed as a noble order of Orn. Now controls fortresses throughout the North and Midwest of the continent. Primary responsibilities are dispatching oppressive petty lords and occasional mustering to help fighter off undead hordes.

Knights of Solaris: This Solaric order is considered the first line of defense against the undead armies of Khasgara. The name comes from a Solaric temple of the same name, which is situated so high on the Plaguewall that clouds never block out the sun.

Knights Shadowbane: Loose band of Holy Warriors who tend towards a grey area morally. If not for their significant contributions in espionage and surgical strikes during the last Plaguemarch (massive undead invasion that penetrated to the walls of Orn’s capital), it is unlikely they would still be tolerated by more normalized followers. Despite their “religious shortcomings”, they remain on good terms with the Knights Vindicator.

Order of the Exarch: Clerics, Inquisitors, and Paladins of Exarcha that promote law and order throughout the land. Though rare, they occasionally come into dispute with other orders for promoting and protecting less favorable despots. They are based primarily in the Rivvenmarches.

Riders of Urgar-Tarok (Blood and Honor): Grizzled orcs and orckin riding massive wolves may not conjure the usual image of a Knightly Order, but these warriors of the eastern planes became a welcomed sight in the eyes of the common folk as the Khasgaran legions pushed in the Rivvenmarches. Born of a sect of Hordekin who continued to praise Ortharok even during his slumber, the people of the Great Plaines knew to separate a Wolfblood from his feral brothers; for his courage, and for his honoring of oaths.

Absolution of Dusk: Monastic order dedicated to Osirion, and the destruction of undeath.

Imminent Dawn: Monastic order dedicated to Sol Invictus, and general heroics.

Path of Calan: Monastic order that follows the teaching of a Monk named Calan, who could master any style of martial arts within a single day.

Path of the Wandering Soul: Monastic order that encourages its members to spend great lengths of time wandering the world and doing good. Many adventuring monks are former aspirants.

Way of the Shattered Blade: Monastic order that holds that the only true weapon is the self.
