4E

No, I'm not kidding. It's getting announced in a few hours at GenCon, but the WOTC guys screwed up the permissions, so people could get to the forum about it... (CO board thread with a screenshot of the forum).

How much you guys wanna bet SW Saga is gonna look a lot like 4E?

According to article, WOTC tested out 4E mechanics in ToB and SW Saga! Those are probably WOTC's best books in the last few years...

I eagerly await the arrival of my copy of SW Saga in the next few days, and I have to agree that the mechanics look a lot simpler. They seem to have done away with saves, though I haven't done any deep reading so I could just have missed it. I'd like to see how they're going to incorporate all this new material that's been put out.

I dunno. In the announcement at the convention, they were emphasizing the online aspects a bit too much for my liking. They never actually SAID the word "subscription", but...

ugh, you fail to understand our conversation once again...

yeah they aren't real skill points, although there's really not that much difference. Trained skills give it a slight boost while untrained means not so. Just about any skill is considered crossclass since you add half your char-lvl to skills. And like I said... not that hard to convert, look @ their PrC requirements.

personally I don't like this part of the system nearly as much.

this and the fact the saves system encourage cross-classing like hell is the only real pickings I have with the SWsaga edition.

yeah, the base saves not advancing is utter shit on a stick, but you do add your level to them which somewhat makes up for it

adding your level means pretty much on par with 'all good saves' however its the fact wherever you take lvls in a class... you get a 'class bonus' to saves. So if you crossclass like hell you rack up a lot of those bonuses, and with the talent tree system being extremely flexible you never have to take all 10/20 levels of something to gain the ability you wanted from said class. Put this together and its like asking every char above lvl15 to have levels in 5+ diff classes.

its looking more like its going to be like D20 modern, minus the fact that base classes only go to level 10. most d20 modern PCs have 2 to 3 different base classes, at least one advanced class, and maybe a prestige class as well.

I think it looks a teensy bit less complicated than that. I'd like to see the format of the new books and how they're going to be laid out; god knows the organization of 3.5 could have used a bit of work.

I hope they start including Indexes again. All these newer books without indexes are driving me insane
