Wessel moves 30' ahead to see what the objects are.

( How far to the other side of the clearing? and how far to the nearest building ruins / cover? )

Alvar speaks quietly to the party. "There's a bunch of dead horses and riders up ahead. Can't see from here if they were soldiers or merchants, but either way we should be on our guard."

He then moves forward 20' to try and get a better look. (Perception 14+11=25)

Athaulf advances with Alvar, his hammer at the ready to cover the alchemist.

(The only cover available is a ruined house that's about 100ft away from you.)
Upon approach, you and your companions discover about twelve humanoid bodies, as well as the corpses of six horses. Alvar immediately notices that four of the humanoid bodies are extremely emaciated, and both he and Athaulf also note the stench of rotting flesh.

(Alvar, Athaulf, and anyone else who moves up to within 20ft can roll Perception and Survival).
