Before the meeting finishes, Tougou had a retainer bring in what you recognized as four Greater Communication Rings --- standard communication rings with the ability to send a message, per Sending, once per day (and more with lvl5 slots) to any other Communication Ring in the same network (obviously Tougou clan's in this case). He offer one each to Terasaka, Yuuta, and both Genichirou and Touka. Both of the Izayoi siblings gave their regular Comm Rings to him in return...
[I'll write up stats later...]

Tougou also requests if he could have Kikkawa Kiku's frying-pan-on-a-chain from Terasaka; he intended to give it back to the Mouri as a gesture of goodwill...

( anything else either of you want to do before we conclude this trip ? )

"The Oda will win the next battle, but that will only start the war. With the death of Baba Shouen, the Takeda Red Battalion will no longer have unified command--- his Captains are far too fiery to listen to one another easily. It might be different if Takeda Shingen shows up, but insofar as we know, he's still engaged against the Uesugi in the northern front. However, what is certain is that the Takeda will be declaring all-out war against the Oda, even if they have to take a penalty in the truce with the Uesugi-Hojo alliance to do so."

"And they'll let them?" Tougou questioned in a tone like he already knew the answer.

"Most likely. The Useugi and Hojo clans' current diplomatic policy is to side against aggressor clans. The Oda's recent actions have firmly entrenched themselves in that category. Having two aggressors beat each other to death would be in their best interests."

"What's the likely outcome then?"

"The Takeda has the superior military, especially once they rally all the troops currently deployed against the Uesugi/Hojo alliance. The Oda, on top of foreign support, have more territories and better fortifications, but most of their land is recently conquered and require shaking down. Therefore it all depends on whether the Oda can hold their ground against the Takeda's first wave of attacks--- the longer they last, the more advantageous the situation will turn out for them. But if the Oda front collapses, the Takeda will roll over them within weeks --- so it's hard to say either way right now."

Tougou nods in agreement before taking the baton to explain some other details himself:

"I'd say your aim for the Saji clan is founded. The Saji had always been held in high regard by the lords of Mikawa. My father even once thought about betrothing my sister to Saji Kazu, then heir and the current clan head, since they grew up together. Of course, most of the samurai who left Mikawa after its fall believe the Saji to be traitors because they did switch allegiance to the Tokugawa--- so I don't think I need to tell you to proceed with caution, but otherwise you have my full approval."

"Unfortunately, my retainers are rather limited and I can't lend you anyone better in diplomacy than those already there," he then turns towards the two: "I'd like you two to lend your support to Terasaka," a 'recommendation' to which the Izayoi siblings accepted respectfully.

"...Taira Eichi had already given you his best available operatives for the mission. But if you need a combat squad or any other resources, inform me and I'll see what we can do."

( added resistance personnel to thread; added Outlaw Skirmisher and Outlaw Ambusher to bestiary )

"It would be an honor to serve you, Lord Tougou."

He bows deeply before continuing with a wry smile,

"Although I fear I may have much to learn about court protocols and manners. But, regarding the details...

"Our plan must rely on two pillars of support: the strength of samurai in Mikawa still loyal to you, and the aid we can negotiate from the Oda. To succeed, we must seize the capital, kill or capture Tokugawa Leyasu and his heirs, and then neutralize the Tokugawa armies in the field.

"For support, I would suggest relying primarily on the Saji clan, and making cautious overtures to the Makino and Mizuno. The Makino and Mizuno have good reason to resent the tanuki who have stolen their ancestral homes and made them servants in their own castles. The Saji have been giving surreptitious aid to the rebels, and my divinations reveal that they still hold loyalty to your family. More input from those more familiar than myself with the Mikawa Houses," Terasaka glances at Taira Eichi, "would of course be welcome."

"From the Oda we need two things. An elite strike team to help us seize the capital, and coordination with their main armies in the field. The foreign mages that this Rance character has brought from the mainland could be particularly useful, since that's one area that both us and the tanuki are going to be weak in. Meanwhile, the main armies of the Oda play two important roles. First, they may be needed to draw away forces from the capital, perhaps by appearing threatening or by appearing vulnerable. Second, they will be vital in handling the Tokugawa field armies that remain after the coup.

"On the military details of the strike itself it is pointless to speculate. We need to know more about what, and more importantly who, we will have to work with. A powerful surprise attack to decapitate our enemy and seize his seat of power will no doubt play a role. The most important thing here is to find a way to position ourselves to strike without alerting the tanuki. Even if we find samurai still loyal to us, it could be tough to bring them to the capital without arousing suspicion. Perhaps Rance's foreign mages will have something to help with this... If not we'll just have to find supporters not tied up in the front lines and bring them to the capital with old fashioned sneakery.

"Last are the Tokugawa field armies, led by Tokugawa Leyasu's most trusted and loyal generals. The key here will be to have the Oda armies put them in a desperate position from one side, and attack the loyalty of their human followers on the other. If we play it correctly there's a chance we'll be able to neutralize them without bloodshed, although I wouldn't count on it."

Then, a wide smirk stretched its way across Tougou's face, baring his unreasonably white teeth (especially for an exile) on one side like a predator that would make even the Wolf Fangs proud.

"I like it."

"Sir?" Akiyama looked surprised, shocked really, and so were both of the Izayoi siblings.

"Toss a brick for a jade, exchange the guest for the host*--- it's exactly the kind of daring, farsighted, yet patient plan needed to retake our homeland, more even," Tougou explained to his chief of staff before turning back to Terasaka: "Well, Mister Terasaka Takayoshi, what details do you have planned in mind? Obviously, I'd need to lead the expedition myself to seize the Oda's interest and trust --- and we can assume that they'd be the side picked for now, but--- what resources do you think you need to set it up?"

"And--- an even more pertinent question: how would you like to place your allegiance and work for me?"

(Well darn Judson, that was the *first* time someone came up with something strategic that I completely didn't expect, nor plan for. I'm impressed; bonus XP to be given at end of this meeting.)

Tsuyoshi Tougou nodded and gestured Akiyama in before requesting Terasaka to repeat what he just said, then stared back at him in all seriousness:

"With Takeda Shingen's record in mind --- and based on the ambitious military actions of Oda as of late, this Rance is likely to be the same --- neither has shown much regard for the need of allies, only vassals. So, are you proposing to help one of them by entering their service and granting them a decisive edge in return for control of Mikawa under them?"

"However, I believe that the presence of the Takeda army opposing the Oda conquest presents a tremendous opportunity. The situation is finely balanced, with neither of the powerful forces able to defeat the other. This means that only a small push would be needed to give one side a decisive advantage.

"This is what gives us our opportunity. With our limited forces, we have little chance of seizing Mikawa alone, especially against such a powerful array of enemies. But were we to ally with either the Oda or the Takeda, their support could give us the strength needed to stage a coup. Once you seized the government and presented your rule as a fait accompli, the samurai and human armies would have little loyalty to the tanuki.

"The idea is risky, and will take a great deal of refinement to become a workable plan. But the greatest risk is political, and that is why I needed to return here. Whichever side we allied with would demand much of you and of Mikawa, during the current battle and after, and we would hardly be in a position to refuse. The question is, do you want to take your country back, if it means sacrificing independence?"

After questioning a few Tougou personnel on their lord's whereabouts, you find him in his main office, still talking to several people, who were probably civilians from the local populace since they obviously didn't look like ex-exiles. Tsuyoshi Tougou quickly wrapped up the conversation after a guard informed him of your presence and sent the others off to discuss their matters -- some administrative stuff -- later.

"Yuuta, Terasaka, welcome. Please, take a seat." The young (ex)'feudal lord' was as flawless-looking as ever as he welcomed the group in. The nearly-empty room was probably one of the most traditionally decorated rooms in the Castle. There were no seats and barely any furniture, only a single work desk, a number of seating mats, and lots of maps and scrolls hanging off the walls. "---and I presume two you must be the Izayoi siblings."

Genichirou, who was handling himself far more formal than you could of expected, and Touka bowed deeply and introduced themselves before they entered the room and closed the door behind them.

"I am honored to have your assistance. Akiyama tells me you were amongst the finest samurai my father had. Please share your wisdom and support my inexperienced self whenever possible," Tougou said as he bowed from his seiza posture on the mat.

"You humble yourself too much my lord. The honor is all ours." Izayoi Touka responded with an even deeper bow.

Tougou nodded towards the two to hint that they'll continue the discussion later, before turning back to Yuuta and Terasaka:
"So how may I help you two?"

It was late afternoon, and the autumn sun was nearing the horizon by the time Terasaka was ready to (Word-of-)Recall to Nakakuni Castle after everyone returned to camp and settled down...

( Dave --- is Yuuta coming? I just noticed you never said either way ).

As the group emerged from teleportation outside Nakakuni Castle, Genichirou commented nostalgically that he "hadn't felt that in years, but still as unpleasant as ever". Todoroki Yuu, who had been expecting them outside the castle gates, soon met up to give Terasaka (and Yuuta?) an overview of the recent political changes:

"...Tougou Tsuyoshi kinda signed us up with the Mouri--- it's, ummm, not really a vassalage, but then not an alliance either. The basics seem to be that in return for the Mouri letting us stay here unbothered, we're required to send warriors to assist the Mouri should their home territories, only their home territories, be invaded. B-but they, ummm, aren't bound by the military aid in return. Several of the other exile groups feels rather, well, betrayed by this, and the Wolf Fangs have been vocal in particular--- there's a lot of friction building between the two sides lately, and the Takuga band are trying to keep them from getting too bad."

Genichirou's men who ambushed the withdrawing raiders also captured two supply carts, with one being loaded with armor. He's not sure what to do with them at the moment, since most of his men are trained as skirmishers and wouldn't fight so well (or disciplined) as heavy infantry. A few of his warriors could use the armor upgrade, of course, and while Genichirou is interested in training some of the men as musketeers, he's not sure they have the time or ammunition to do it right now (takes a lot of bullets to train a gunner after all).

Genichirou takes from the loots:
Comm Ring - he has one, but his officers could always use another for coordination.
3 x Terasaki mount + horseshoes/saddle for them - they could always use more mounts for scouting/communications.
all the heavy javelins - since the resistance fighters are mostly skirmishers

Giving the Shield of Faith Ring to Rainer (for his construct, given that it draws attention like heck).

For selling them, the resistance are just planning to haul the goods over the back roads to a nearby province before selling them. The Oda hasn't solidified their control of Imagawa's former province of Tokaido yet so that might be a good place, or they can haul it all the way to the Hojo-controlled province of Edo (they're Takeda's foes anyways). In either case, it'll take a few days before those sent to sell the goods will return...
( but not like you'll be spending the money immediately as far as I can tell, so... )

( total good sold: ~25,000gps, minus some to pay for those who took the trip then divided 6 way between Yuuta, Shigeru, Rainer, Terasaka, Yumi, Genichirou, and Sugire for... )
( 3,500gps Each )
( remaining goods being added to party inventory - may need a few more bags of holding )

Also, what do you plan to do with that soldier you captured? The other ambushers also captured another three soldiers and isn't sure what to do about them.

Either way, everyone gets back safely to the stronghold in the afternoon.
( I'll work on the next part about Terasaka+Yuuta+Genichirou/Touka returning to Nakakuni Castle to discuss next stage plans... tell me if anyone is trying to do anything before that. )

Genichirou swings down his nodachi at the surrendered soldier and knocks him out with the flat of his blade. The rest of the raiders were too busy fleeing north, and straight towards where the other resistance fighters was setting up their ambush.
"They're heading your way boys, get ready!" Genichirou sent over the comm, and two simple replies filled with enthusiasm came back.

Meanwhile, those on the east side (everyone minus Shigeru) notices movement coming out of the wood to the east. Seconds later, over a dozen Phantom Steeds burst from the trees around 3/4mi towards the east. They were farther away than the Takeda force approaching from the southwest, but they were also much faster, and was likely to arrive at your current location just before the Takeda onslaught.

Genichirou blinked several times, as if unsure of what he's seeing at first. But despite his surprise and worries, he recovered quickly and his tone was calm as usual.
"Oy vey, what kind of setup is this. We're about to be squashed in-between two hostile forces here--- well guys, it seems these fake Takeda troops we were hunting has drawn in quite a party, and the way I see it we only have three choices left:"

"First, we hide in either the houses or these patch of woods and hope that when they're too busy fighting each other, we'll sneak off. I bet you they've already noticed our presence though, so whether they'll leave us alone instead of burning down the trees and houses is up to our luck."

"Second, we run away towards north-by-northwest and get as much distance as we can in the minute before their arrival. Maybe they'll ignore us, but there's always chance one of 'em might figure they'd finish our little party off before the big meal, especially if we put ourselves in the open by fleeing this tiny village."

"Third, we pretend we're on one of their sides and help fight the other side off, and hope they'll take it at face value long enough for us to talk our way out of it afterwards. The Oda will arrive first so shooting them as they come in will declare our intentions earlier, but the bigger Takeda force might also make the Oda troops more reasonable with the whole 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' stuff."

"What do you guys think?" Genichirou finished as he looked around to the rest of you...

Takeda Force: ~50 tebasaki mounted troops in multiple ranks, approaching from the southeast at a canter. Will take 1.5~2min to arrive depending on when they go into full gallop. Shigeru could roughly make out the first rank as being mounted samurai gunners in the center and mounted archers to the flanks. Furthermore, someone from the second row was flying the banner of Red Battalion Commander Baba Shouen--- surely the leader of the Takeda expedition himself didn't choose to come out to raid!?

Oda Force: ~15 phantom-steed mounted troops, heading in at a full gallop and would no doubt be here in a minute. They also look foreign; in fact Terasaka & Rainer recognizes most of their white+purple uniforms as from the Magic Kingdom of Zeth, and this was probably a squad of their reputed Gunmages. Two of them however wore customized outfit and were probably commanders. The one in the back couldn't be seen very well outside her camouflage-green uniform, but the one that charged in the front was a blonde wielding a naginata and wearing a strangely modified kimono (might as well, seeing as you could hardly ride in one normally).

( Rainer & Terasaka realizes that given the currently split Oda forces in the Mikawa province and the fact this phantom rider squad, being foreigners, probably came from the southern force while the current battlefield was arguable closer to the northern force--- it might be possible, especially with the Oda disguises you all still wore, that the Oda troops will conclude that were you were a special ops unit from the *other* invasion force, should you show yourselves to be friendlies. )

The mounted samurai stepped back to cover PS10. Still too close to Rosebud to be reasonably threatened, he pulls out a heavy javelin and hurls it at Rainer's construct...
( Rosebud takes 20 piercing damage )

Genichirou makes his way over and smashes into PS11 with his Nodachi, finishing off the bloodied pikeman.

Another look at the cloud of dust coming from the southwest made Shigeru realize that the incoming cavalry force is probably closer to half mile and 1mi away, and closing in fast. It's still hard to tell their numbers at the moment though, but there were around several dozen of them...

Meanwhile, most of the raiding party was withdrawing north at full speed, straight in the direction where the ambush was being laid. It seemed like the two that remained down south were left behind by their comrades.

Rainer's lightning blast struck MS3 full, but MS4 managed to evade its chain, while the two pikemen interposed their shields and armor to channel the electricity into the ground with minimum damage to themselves. Nevertheless, MS3 died a bloody death seconds later as Rosebud's polearm sheared his torso off before his lance could impact.

The same could not be same for the other mounted trooper. His lance went unerring into one of the joints between Rosebud's torso and legs, piercing its armor and penetrating deep into its servo-muscle components, effectly destroying all connection with two of the legs and leaving them lamed pieces of steel just dangling from the main body.
( Critical hit: Rosebud takes 60 piercing dmg, -50% speed penalty until damage is healed [avoided the ability damage since its a construct] )
The trooper then let's go of the lance and leaves it buried in Rosebud...
( Impalement: Rosebud is Entangled [but can't take bleed damage] until one of you pulls the lance out with a DC26 Strength check )

Shigeru, the only one not obstructed by the woods, notices dust coming from the southwest. There were more troops coming, although they're still quite a distance away (~1mi). Several Takeda banners could be seen leading the column...

EDIT (forgot some stuff):
In the meantime, the fire at the grain stores was growing bigger, and Yuuta was starting to feel the heat...

The crossbowmen in the back took aim and shot at Yuuta to cover the left wing's retreat, and one of the bolts managed to strike him. Not wanting to be left without melee cover, they also turned and began to retreat towards the north.
( Yuuta takes 22 piercing damage )

Shigeru's bomb left one of the samurai within barely an inch of his life, which was promptly snuffed out seconds later by the flames, while badly burning the other two nearby.

For a second Terasaka's spell almost seemed to affected the mounted soldier as his eyes turned on his ally, but the target managed to (barely) resist it.
Yumi's shot however knocks the other mounted trooper off his horse, and after a hard crash onto the ground he stopped moving altogether.

PS7 tries to get up from the ground to run away ( AoO provoked from Yuuta ). His three comrades nearby also withdrew to run away as they realized how badly the three of them were outclassed by their two foes...

The three on the right side of the supply cart thrust their pikes at Rosebud simultaneously, only to glance off the armor once again. With their left wing collapsed they were of a mind to flee the battle as well...

The mounted samurai then rode south before firing at Rainer's construct from the east, except the arrows bounced harmlessly off it. Putting the bows back in their holders, the mounted soldiers reached for the heavy spears carried on their backs...

Genichirou charges into the left-side pikes, parrying one aside while letting the others graze off his heavy armor, before sending his massive nodachi blade straight into PS5. The sword had cut deep, but the heavy armor of the pikeman had saved his life, for now.

PS3 dropped to the ground and screamed as he rolled about, trying to put out the fire, and surprisingly managed to suceed. The remaining three thrusts out again with their weapons, only to be evaded yet again. At this point they were visibly shaken given that despite losing four already, they haven't even managed to scratch the attackers...

Meanwhile, the other set of pike samurai managed to form a line to the right of the ox-drawn cart and set their spears in defense of the giant construct
(provokes an AoO from Rosebud: does cost an immediate action btw).

Genichirou nodded simply and he beckoned everyone to follow him after departing from the tree line. "Alright, get's get this party started."

Under cover of invisibility, the group made it all the way over to near the foliage patch next to the forest without anyone being the wiser, although now that the range is dropping rapidly and Genichirou's heavy armor is anything but silent (not to mention Terasaka's clumsy steps which seem to find all the right twigs to snap) this may likely change very soon---

( Buffs up --- will make a buff compilation once that's done... )
( I need the following from everyone: Stealth check, Initiative check, and preferred deployment position on map [whether you reach it or not depends on your stealthiness: Yuuta and Yumi can be anywhere in the woods south of the village, while everyone else should position themselves somewhere in the deployment zone west of it -- see E14] )
( Map updated, obviously )

Yuuta and Yumi also notices from his hiding spot that the raider are just about packed up and heading out, as soon as that last package loads... (both Yuuta and Yumi gets surprise round, so feel free to take an action to start the battle if you want, or wait for the rest to get there before attacking).

In the meantime one of the remaining spearmen begin lighting the storage building on fire with a torch. Some of the enemies are already on the road north, but over a dozen of them are in the rear with the last two carts. Most of the enemy foot soldiers are equipped with really long spears (hence labelled pike: 15ft reach), and, despite doubts, they're mostly wearing Takeda samurai armor. They're also carrying pavise tower shields that's normally seen only with ranged troops, although most of them just have it slung over their backs right now...
There are also two mounted soldiers in the rear units, each armed with a heavy spear (effectively a lance) and a composite bow...

"I knew it wouldn't be Lord Shingen, allowing for something so dishonorable!" the ronin Hayato exclaimed over the comm.

"Well, that just means we can hit them without restraint---" Genichirou remarked with a vicious yet pleased tone, although Hayato snorted slightly in response, clearly doubting that he would have ever held himself back in the first place. "Hayato, Takahiko, split into two squads and lay an ambush on the road north from the village. Terasaka, if you don't mind, your squad and I can surprise them from the south and drive them north, straight towards the ambush. Sugire, if you would arrange our Oda disguises..."

Sugire looked towards Terasaka for confirmation...

Yuuta made his way across the open fields and into the small patch of woods, situated almost right next to the village. It's almost winter and the crops have already been harvested, but that unfortunately also meant what grains are kept are what the local needed to get through the winter season. A trace of nostalgia struck Yuuta as he looked at the main road leading in, as this village was near the one he originated from, and several of his old comrades were from here so he's visited occasionally in the past.

As he entered the small patch of trees, he notices that there were still two more families hiding there. They however didn't show any signs of noticing him, all their attention was towards the other side--- where you see nearly four dozen armed men finishing up their raid, loading foodstuffs and things of remote value into a large ox-drawn cart. There was also two other carts nearby, but both of them were covered by a thick fabric. Several of the homes were already on fire, likely their doing. Most of them were also preparing to move out towards further north, which is troubling--- (1) it's further away from the Takeda encampment and (2) Yuuta's home village is in that direction just a few miles down the road.

The suspicious part was the enemy themselves. Although they weren't seen earlier, these troops did have a few mounts, but there were only five of them. They wore a mix of ashigaru lamellar armor and the samurai's great armor, but not particularly well-doned or even well-fitting (heavy armor were normally fitted for individuals after all). They also carried spears that were far longer than normal for around here, with pointed steel tips instead of steel blades at the end. Lastly, and possibly the most obvious--- they simply didn't look from around here. Their darker complexions looked more like those from western Japan or even from the continent (not that Yuuta had seen that many of them for a good reference, but going to the Death Lands did broaden his views).

Yumi whispers over the comm rings: "I have a feeling these men are just pretending to be Takeda troops--- they don't really look like it."

Nobody volunteered with any free invisibilities.

Yumi takes a step forward, pulling her bow out. "I'll follow you and lend a backup if something need be; and this might help." She then casts Camouflage on Yuuta (+10 stealth to hide)
(this is at a favored terrain for her, so allies within sight of her also gain +2 initiative, perception, stealth, survival, and cannot be tracked. Since Yuuta has the better stealth mod [far better with the buff] I presume he'll do the leading).

(don't we love slot levels? xD)
(Since it doesn't seem like Dave and Marty intend to join in [=\], skipping forth...)

---------- * * * ----------

It took another few hours across the hills and through the woods before the entire raid group arrived at the fields on the outskirts of Chiryu village. Even before reaching the tree line you can see smoke rising from the distance, telltale signs of the village itself being attacked and pillaged. The main village was about 3/4th of a mile away from the tree line of the woods. However, the scouts also quickly pointed out there was a smaller patch of trees, but still enough for a team to hide in, just a few hundred feet outside the main village area.

There were villagers still running away in panick, but it seems most of them had already escaped. Several armored men could be seen in the village itself, with battered Takeda banners on their back. But for whatever reason, none of them were mounted, nor were there any Tebasaki mounts in sight...

Genichirou: "What do you all think? Should we have the rest of the group support our attack from that patch of trees, or have them lay down the ambush so we can either lead or push the enemy into it?"

"Full strike I'd say," said Hayato (one of the ex-samurai rebels). "We need to gauge their behavior first, and also--- something feels a bit off about these Takeda."

Genichirou's eyes widened as Terasaka mentioned teleporting back to meeting Tougou Tsuyoshi.

"Well I'm definitely coming with you! Certainly can't pass up a chance like this."

"---And I would like to take up your offer also," Touka responded much more calmly. "Maybe it would be best if we delayed..."

"We'll be back way before the sun sets," Genichirou declared confidently. "Those Takeda soldiers should be taught a lesson before they decide to raid again tomorrow... some self-claiming honorable lord Shingen is for allowing his troops to do this crap."

Touka didn't say anything after that as Genichirou went about and rounded up nearly two-third of the warriors, including several who made the scouting rounds this morning, before heading out from the resistance's mountain fort. The two dozen or so men were a rather rag-tag looking group even with their armor and arms, which isn't too surprising given their rebel status. Other than Genichirou, only two others had well-maintained heavy armor and swords. The rest of the rebels were wearing leather scale or lamellar armor, clean but battered and showing obvious signs of recently repaired damage (and many of them only repaired properly courtesy of Rainer). Half of them were equipped with crossbows, while the other half carried an assortment of javelins and axes. It's pretty obvious that these people are skirmishers, and probably wouldn't fare so well if they were pinned down by professional soldiers.

( I presume people are going since Terasaka/Judson and Rainer/Squall signed up, but tell me now if you'd rather not =P )

After conversing briefly with the scouts, Genichirou highlighted his rough plan with everyone: "The Takeda soldiers are raiding in the vicinity of Chiryu village, north of Okazaki Castle. Their numbers aren't so great either. We go in fast and hard, hit them while they're disorganized in the looting, and withdraw back into the woods before they can get their bearing back together. If they still refuse to go back to camp, then we lay down an ambush for them and see if fear would give them back some honor and reason!"

( Anything people would be doing in preparation ? )

Genichirou's eyebrows raised at the rest of Rainer's comment. "Well--- unfortunately, can't say I share your faith in the Oda. The Tokugawa were oppressive but at least they were peaceful. The Oda has been doing nothing except drafting troops and waging wars as of late. Although, disguising as them actually sounds like a decent idea--- more provocation to let those two sides beat themselves senseless."

Touka didn't say anything, but nodded, albeit just barely, in acceptance of her brother's idea.

He then turned towards Terasaka, Yuuta, and the rest of the group. "What about you guys' thoughts? Would you prefer to join our little operation or go about your own business? I realize you still have work to do before we move westwards."

The next day, November 1st...

Winter seems to have set in earlier this year as the temperature dropped drastically overnight. The air was frosty when you first awoke this morning, but otherwise it seemed to be a normal day. It wasn't until the sun was halfway up to its apex when the first piece of interesting informations swept in:

The Takeda cavalry forces had finished crossing the mountaneous regions last night and made camp about 10 miles to the northwest of Okazaki Castle. The elite core of the expedition force, the Red Battalion led by General Baba Shouen, mounted an overnight assault against the Oda's camp last night. The surprise attack successfully broke through two of the outer camps, routing the foreign mercenary pikemen who deserted into the night, as well as inflicting considerable losses upon the ashigaru. However, several charges mounted to overwhelm the inner camp were beaten back by the foreign musketeers/gunners with heavy casualties on the Takeda side. The battle ended at more or less a stalemate as the Takeda broke off the attacks and withdrew back to its own camp.

This morning, the Takeda had allowed its own ashigaru to form 'forage parties', essentially pillaging the countryside for supplies. It seemed they had travelled light to get over here as soon as possible and did not bring sufficient supplies for a prolonged standoff.
(While it's not uncommon for armies to do this, it does devastate the local populace and production; probably amongst reasons why the Oda hasn't done it yet--- since they want to conquer the province, not ruin it).

The moment the two Izayoi siblings heard the news, Genichirou's face grew red in anger: "Damn the Takeda. They have no interest in helping us. They just want to take advantage of the war against the Oda!"

"We should teach those scavengers of theirs a lesson!" Yelled someone from amongst the crowd that was quickly gathering as the news spread.

"However, that would draw their attention upon us, instead of focusing their efforts on the Oda." Izayoi Touka commented.

"We don't know if they'd really do that to begin with," replied Izayoi Genichirou.

Scattered discussions and comments broke out from the resistance fighters. It seemed like the opinions were about evenly mixed. Some was intent on beating back this new sign of aggression immediately, while others were willing to endure it now for a possible 'greater good' and to avoid any possible reprisals from the Takeda.

( thoughts guys? )

Terasaka, stories mostly exhausted, lapses into normal conversation with Genichirou and the others in the group.

"I've seen some pretty capable spellswords wielding destructive magic alongside some fine swordplay during my time in Toushin Toushi--- seemed like quite a useful skill."

-----

Terasaka soon realizes after a while that he really doesn't know enough about Tsuyoshi Tougou's time in the Death Lands. Sugire listened in with quite the intrigue, but none of them really joined in--- possibly because they might not have joined until after the alliance broke out of the Death Lands.
(if you want to talk inter-group politics, you'd have to give me a summary on your stance, perspective, etc)
