(DC 20 STR to withstand the wave (if you succeed a DC 15 DEX check, you receive a +2 bonus for being albe to hold on to something) from Dave, Scott, and Judson).

As the ship began to take on water, Tann new that if he did't pull the ship out of the surge soon, the 'Wyvern was not going to make it.

(I need a Prof: Sailor Check from Marty. Dai and Eric are both encouraged to make aid another checks, considering that if they both had successfully aided the last one, Marty would have made the check.)

Also, Faina receives a message from Faerlan...

Faina, this is Faerlan! I have Saerlani! Can't hold on much longer! Current location is North... The message cuts off suddenly, and abruptly.

(yeah, its official, the gods of random number generators hate me right now)

Tannhauser grits his teeth as he tries his hardest to keep the ship steady. "I'm a little busy right now people. The eye will have calmer seas, but do you truly wish to fight Demons when the weather conditions can change at a moments notice? And the other ship could use our help as well. Regardless of the morality of either choice, both of those choices would leave us sailing into heavier storms and thus risking damage to the ship and injury to the crew. I am not willing to risk the safety of the ship and crew, both of which are required for us to carry out our mission. Get the rest of the crew back onboard, I'm sailing us out of the storm once they are."

An odd silence fell over the crew as no reply came from the captain. Seconds later, off in the distance, a few (anyone who beat a DC 20 listen and spot with -10 modifiers) could hear bombard-fire in the distance, a even fewer noticed what looked like signal flares being shot into the sky...

"Fireworks!" Yelled Calian. "Someone up ahead is in trouble!"

(Marty: Prof Sailor Check)

As the waves surged alongside of the 'Wyvern, a dolphin appeared out of nowhere, seemingly hopping out of the water in an attempt to board the ship. In mid-air, the creature shifted form into none other than Calian who managed to land on the deck rather smoothly, despite the storm. He quickly made his way up to the helm, shouting as he went. Faina also sensed another ship, Dread Reaver, very close to the Undaunted, perhaps even right next to it. Through the miracles of magic, Faina's actions appear to halt much of the damage that could have been wrought, as a large percentage of the wave harmlessly slammed into the Wall of Force. Much water managed to roll over the wall and fall to the deck, but it was nothing the sailors hadn't seen before. What the spells did not stop was the undercurrent, which surged as the remainder of the wave passed around the ship, dragging the the remaining sailor in the water away from the ship and into the wave that was surging away from the 'Wyvern...

Meanwhile, on the deck, Francis, Anton, and two other sailors finish pulling one of the sailors up to the deck, who, despite a broken arm and a bit of decking jabbed in his side, managed to breath, and curse. Tann, after an exhaustive battle with the current, manages to swim to the ship before the surge hits the undercurrent, grab a loose line, and begin to climb.

The storm, overall, has continued to worsen, as walls of water can be seen crashing into each other in erratic patterns which every stroke of lightning. Yet, as the ship rose up from the chaos of the previous wave, a sudden, and eerie calm fell over the waters, as the clouds above them thinned slightly (Alexius' eyes stop glowing). A short respite had been granted. Yet, even from here the crew could see the epicenter of of the storm of to the West, a great swirling mass of lightning and storm (spot checks, everyone but Marty) with wave that looked far fiercer than one they had just bested.

It was then that Faina detected a ship, Undaunted, up ahead. The ship was moving slow, and she could sense that the vessel had not fared well against the sea. Were the ship in better condition, she thought it would intercept them if they continued their present course, but it was slowing.

Concentration Check (2AP reroll): 32

For estimating the waves and best position to put up wall:
Spot: 40
Wisdom: 25
Intelligence: 19

As soon as the spell finishes, Faina grabs the helm (and not just the wheel) as firmly as possible to brace of the impact...

Profession(Sailor): 19 (+6 bonus below = 25)

( Furthermore, my Stormrunner's Ward [Storm] should still be active on the ship, granting it a +6 bonus to severe weather sailing checks, foundering checks, and capsizing checks - it's resistance against storm damage ).

Meanwhile:

Francis, despite his disability, manages to throw the rope directly to one of the sailors, who graps and holds on for dear life. Upon feeling the tightening the line, the crew lined up behind Francis begin to pull him in. Francis and Anton also manage to catch sight of the the other crewman who had fallen overboard.

Tann had nearly made is back to the ship, only to be pulled back away. If not for his superior swimming skills, he would probably be in the undercurrent. Luckily, the same forces that pulled him back, also pulled ship along with him. (Current location, 15ft from the ship).

No sine of Faerlan or his daughter...

DM: Alexius can feel something chaotic feeding this storm. He's certain its not him, but the fact that his eyes are beginning to glow slightly is making some of the crew uneasy. Taking a moment to watch storm, he remembers reading a passage in a book long ago about the Abyss, and a particularly stormy sea nearby.

You don't know how long the ship is, and you're not sure about the wind (maybe ~25mph)

A few of the sailors on the deck managed to reach cover in time before being blasted themselves, but most did not, as the whirlwind rushed by, assaulting the crew with the objects it had picked up, and threatening to launch them overboard. (Anton takes 6 bludgeoning and is prone, Devlon takes 7 bludgeoning) In the chaos that erupted, another sailor, and Sarelani were also hurled overboard.

Tanhauser, who was at the helm, and focusing on the approaching waves, did not manage to look up in time. The whirlwind blasted by him, smashing the random objects into his form (11 bludgeoning), and launching him off the boat and into the stormy sea.

In the aftermath, the crew quickly, albeit shakily, scrambled to get lines down into the water for those who had fallen. Faerlan, having cast a fly spell earlier, immediately rushed off after his daughter, while Niles rushed to stop the helm from spinning out of control. Though, try as he could, the mage's grip just wasn't tight enough, and the wheel continued to spin, flipping him up just in time to close-lined by the aft-sail frame. He hit the stern deck, out cold.

Yet, through all of the havoc, Alexius seemed strangely unaffected...

The great blast of wind came out of nowhere, and instantly knocked much of the crew off of their feat. Two of the crewman were in the rigging, but were able to grab the lines before the wind carried them into the sea.

"Sailors! Stow the rigging!" Faerlan yelled, pulling himself up and withdrawing a scroll from his belt. Then through great concentration, he cast the spell, and lifted off the ground a few inches (Fly Spell).

Up ahead the sea grew increasingly restless, the storm chaotic, and one particular line of waves dangerously close.

(The ship's captain needs to give me a Profession Sailor check).

"What's that!" Faerlan yelled, over the wind which had begun to steadily increase in velocity.

"The storm! It's not moving! It's not going anywhere! It's stationary!" Caelian said, breaking himself out of disbelief. "We need to get out of-..."

He was cut off by a blast of wind that slammed into the ship. The wind came out of no where, and washed over the 'Wyvern, forcing her crew to grab on for dear life.

This was no ordinary storm..

"I finally recognized what is wrong with the storm. Its a Planar Storm, and most likely contains a portion of the essence of the Abyss itself. If we go in there we will not face the normal wind and rain that we are used to, but the demonic fury of the Underworld. Further, the denizens of the Abyssinian Ocean swarm through from their home when such a storm is created, and all manner of aquatic demons infest those waters. That storm is one of the most dangerous locations in all the Oceans. I would advise going through Galtherion waters instead: no amount of officious enforcers could be worse than the dark horrors spawned from the River Styx. I know all too well..."

"Definitely a warship, it's heavily armed with eight light and two heavy bombards. Named the 'King's Saber', sounds more like a warship of a legitimate government than some pirate, good chance it's the Galtherian navy's thinking we're a pirate vessel. I suggest we stay clear of them to avoid any unpleasantries or misunderstandings that may arise... they're too slow to catch us at their current speed."

Attempt to figure out what's wrong with the storm:

and how far is it?

The rest of the trip through the Elspire sea went shockingly peaceful. It was a rare occasion indeed, to sail through such waters without encountering any form of piracy. Perhaps the Protectorate had finally managed to the ones who usually stalked the waters, or maybe the 'Wyvern was just lucky. Either way, the ship was was almost out, and nearing the "fork" which Niles had spoke of. To the South-East, the sea opened to the vastness of Galtherion territory, while to the South-West, the storm could already be seen.

Caelian eyed the storm cautiously. "Something's not right." He announced, looking back at those at the helm. "Something about that storm is, wrong..."

Before he could say any more, a sailor on lookout duty interjected. "Sails ahoy! Two miles and a quarter from the Stern! Drommond Class Warship! Look's like she's attempting to close!"

(Detect Ship: King's Saber; Dromond Class vessel; armed with 8 light bombards (4/side), and two heavy bombards (mounted on the main deck); the ship is moving to slow to close, unless the 'Wyvern was to slow down.)

"Alright lads and lasses. Make for the storm, we've weathered it once, and we'll take 'er again!"

And so, the ship sailed off, due for the storm...
