Damage-over-time AOE generally has three uses:
1) area denial
2) combine with a field control spell (i.e. Entangle, Web) that pins the enemy down while the DoT dishes damage. Or alternatively, toss into a room and lock the doors.
3) force enemies out of a defensive position.
Concussive Onslaughter has the bonus feature of being force damage and thus able to slowly break down walls and destroy a building. The second augment option also gives it a lot of flexibility and makes this spell especially good at cleaning out large numbers of low lvl foes.

Time Hop is good for keeping wards (escort/rescue missions) safe in general, by sending them into the future while you fight it out xD

As for Dispel, I'm not 100% sure YOU need to be the one to take it. I would check with Marty on if that's something Ahz can grab, as I see him filling more of the buff/debuff role while you're AOE DPS.

Also: Concussive Onslaught is NOT concentration unless Dai has house ruled it. Rule As Written is that it lays down a field of force damage, think of it as a puddle of acid or a circle of flame but force damage. after the initial casting, nothing is required to maintain it and it'll continue to last while you blast other things. Could be a good option for doorways, or to discourage flanking attempts or cover.

final recommendation:
If we can get Dispel somewhere else, Time Hop and Concussive Onslaught.
Else: Time Hop and Dispel, possibly in that order.

With level 6 coming up slowly but certainly, I'm looking for input for my power selection again.
I realistically get two 3rd level powers in my career (level 6, Favored Class bonus from level 8). Three if Dai is nice and okays an item from an extra book, but... 18k is expensive.

First, there's of course . Kind of a must and just really, really logical to take.
Then, I really, really want . I can imagine having so much fun with that spell.
would be a weak wall and a weak AoE option, but still covers both. Also, it's fun and absolutely wrecks buildings.
is a straighter AoE option. Damage scales slowly, but it's force, has long range and concentration-duration. Also, I can trade in damage for retargeting it every round, making it efficient... until I'm hit. And it's still slowly scaling, so :? .


As far as walls go, I can take later, not as much of a problem there. It might even be the more reliable option since you can walk through Energy Wall if you're prepared to take damage.
As far as AoE goes... I plan to take Expanded Knowledge and get Energy Missile later (small area, limited number of targets, but safe and scales well). Energy Ball comes really late for me, if I want to take a feat for it, too. And... that's it. I hate all the others for their types of area.

As far as taking a Feat to get another power goes... I'd rather pass. So many other good feats I want and/or need. And if I take a feat for more powers, I'd rather go with Expanded Knowledge and tap into the Discipline Lists more.


Any ideas/feedback/thoughts?

it operates in 2 ways:

way 1: Expend Psionic Focus to manifest path power at 1+WIS Mod PP without spending PP (aka with 4-6 PP augmenting at level 12, well below max)

way 2: Manifest path power normally, and get +Wis to ML (instead of +1), raising duration/range/max allowed PP, but forcing you to pay the FULL PP cost yourself.

I was mostly counting on this to keep my Inertial Armor and Call Weaponry scaling through my prestige class.



As for the true strike trick: was not actually going to use that every round as it does still eat through PP. The better use from my mind was to allow me to pick a 1st level buff (such as one of the Defensive Precognition) to go "Oh crap I wish I had this up during this ambush" and manifest it during the first attack I make. (eliminating the dreaded Buff or Damage choice for one of my low level but low duration buffs)

Empowered Path: just no. The only real weakness psionics has is their low PP endurance when they start augmenting (and maybe the lack of utility powers since Dreamscarred Press seems to only care about combat minmaxing). Free augmentation that can go above their normal ML? That's just wrong in so many ways; especially since the PP pool mechanic allows them to spam low-level powers (lvl20 psywar base 128PP = 128 lvl1 powers/day, now with free augmentation?)

Any character who attempts to break the AC system by using True Strike with every hit will become the target of True Striking siege engine operators and stone-throwing giants.

This particular style of psychic warrior gains mastery over their chosen warrior’s path and learns to use the tools at his disposal when others would not.

Advanced Path: At 9th level, the pathmaster gains the Advanced Path feat for his chosen warrior’s path as a bonus feat even if he does not meet the prerequisites. as a bonus feat. If the pathmaster already has the feat, he can instead choose any psionic or combat feat as a bonus feat, but he must still meet any applicaple prerequisites. This ability replaces secondary path.

For reference: Advanced Mind Kight Path:
Prerequisites: Wis 13, Psionic Meditation, Psionic Shot or Psionic Weapon, Mind Knight path class feature, manifester level 10th, base attack bonus +6

Benefit: As long as you have both Mind Knight path powers, you can manifest both Mind Knight path powers at the same time as a single standard action. Any time you manifest call weaponry, you may select one other 1st level power you know; you may manifest that power using Martial Power as if it were a Path power, as long as the attack is made using the weapon summoned. In addition, when using the Mind Knight maneuver, you gain a +1 competence bonus on the attack rolls for every four psychic warrior levels you have.

Focused Path (Ex): At 11th level, the pathmaster can take 10 on his path skills even if threatened or under duress. He can alternatively expend his psionic focus to take 15 on the path skill. In addition, at 11th level, he is treated as a psychic warrior four levels higher for the purposes of his warrior path trance. This ability replaces the bonus feat normally gained at 11th level.

Empowered Path: At 12th level, the pathmaster adds his Wisdom modifier to his manifester level when manifesting a path power. If he expends his psionic focus when manifesting a path power, the power is automatically augmented for the manifester level boost (minimum 1), but the pathmaster pays no extra power points for this boost. Instead, the additional power points that would normally be required to augment the power is effectively supplied by expending psionic focus. This ability replaces twisting paths. (basically when I manifest for free by expending focus, it's at PP 1+Wis, or I can manifest normally and get Wis added to my ML [duration and max PP cap raised]) The +Wis means my free weapons are now a +1, and my free mage armor is now +6 or +7 depending on wisdom boosts.

Master Maneuver (Su): At 15th level, once per day the psychic warrior can activate a high-powered maneuver for his path. As an immediate action, the pathmaster can activate his warrior path maneuver, gaining the benefits of the maneuver and the ability to perform the action normally associated with the maneuver. The pathmaster does not need to expend his psionic focus to activate his maneuver when using this ability. In addition, the pathmaster is treated as four levels higher for the purposes of the maneuver’s benefit. The psychic warrior gains a second daily use of this ability at 18th level. This
ability replaces pathweaving.

summoned weapons.
Prerequisites: Mind knight warrior path, expanded path class feature.
Benefit: As long as you maintain focus, when you wield a weapon created by call weaponry, you may choose to forgo some or all of the mind knight trance bonus to attack and damage rolls, and instead add an equal value of weapon special abilities to the weapon. These special abilities must be selected from the soulknife’s list of weapon special abilities, and your effective soulknife level for determining which abilities you can select is equal to half your psychic warrior level (rounded down). Once you have selected weapon special abilities to apply, you must spend 8 hours in meditation

Your skill with a particular weapon makes your
summoned weapons more powerful.
Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +3, mind knight warrior path, call weaponry path power, Weapon Focus with selected weapon.
Benefit: When you summon a weapon with the call weaponry path power with which you have the Weapon Focus feat, the weapon’s enhancement bonus is increased by 1 and it gains a single predetermined weapon special ability with a +1 base price modifier. The weapon special ability must be appropriate for the weapon you choose and must be selected from those weapon special abilities available to the soulknife. You can meditate for 8 hours to change which predetermined special ability it gets.
Special: You may take this feat multiple time, it effect do not stack. Each time, choose a new weapon for which you have the Weapon Focus feat to apply the benefits of this feat.

She's also started taking forms with a slight resemblance to Leah. Something in the face or cheekbones, or ears, eyes, hair color or build. Generally speaking its not enough to make a family resemblance until the two are getting up to shenanigans whereupon she shifts into an increasingly familiar 'little sister' appearance that more and more seems to be somewhat 'standard' Koko for around the base.

Now I only need to update... the fluff. Character Background and stuff, but it should generally stay very, very similar. I wonder if I can fluff up how she Wild Surges exactly?
The "issue" I see is that Wild Surging doesn't necessarily take you over the limit. A level 4 Wilder has Wild Surge+2, so I can spend 1PP on a level 1 power, Wild Surge it to get 2 free PP for an effective 3, but that's still below my natural limit of 4PP so I'm not exactly supercharging. I'm just getting free PP to augment with from "nowhere". Thus I thought it could work if I said Leah draws in latent supernatural energy from around her to add to her powers, which comes with the danger of Enervation.
With her scholar's surge, that might just be the topic she's scholarly about. Or it can be seen as a regular old scholarly Psion neglecting his studies of different powers to specialize in tapping into more energy. Cripples the power selection for more fuel and punch. Mechanically a Wilder, but mechanics are meta...-physical in this case? :nhk:

As to surviving huge masses of enemies, if only one in 20 can hit, and only one in 400 can crit, it's totally doable. ;) If nobody in the party has big AOEs, though, we'll be in trouble. In all seriousness, I doubt we'll see more than a dozen enemies at a time. Dai's tried running mass combat in d20 systems with varying levels of hackery - we had one back in...late HS or early college for me that we had to play on a Go board to make it fit. Each stone was 9 enemy units. I don't think we're going to be dealing with that scale again anytime soon because the rules simply don't work.

The higher level the game gets the more noticeable this will get, since I'm one of those GMs who focus on designing good 'template NPCs' and simply scale up the numbers as the party rises in power, rather than keep throwing you against unique, high CR foes (only bosses will get that distinction) that takes hours to design, build, and stat out.

So, what AOE power you decide on is up to you. Concussive Onslaught? Energy Wave? Coordinate with Gorin for a Communal Resist Energy buff before unleashing Energy Blast? Just make sure you have at least one by mid-levels.

Energy Ray... there's little this can do that Missile couldn't, so I'll probably skip it. Bolt... if you can line the enemies up, it can be amazing I suppose, but few enemies will present themselves as such silver... linear platters. Right, Dai? Ball feels like too big an investment to me. Every Expanded Knowledge takes away other useful feats, and if I take Expanded Knowledge I can also take powers that increase my versatility more than Energy Ball. Teleporting, Scrying, Mind Reading/Controlling, "Illusions"...

Not only does Inertial Armor augment better, but (1) it's duration is considered a daily buff and (2) you'll want to spend the opening round casting AOE/disabling effects, rather than buffs. A +2 Mithral Heavy Shield (no ACP) only costs 5k and does the same as force screen; a +5 Mithral Heavy Shield costs 26k and is as good as casting a ML13 Force Screen every battle

Control Sound is great if you keep up good bluff ranks; I do simulate enemy morale, which means faking circumstances can do a lot.
Energy Adaptation is best left to the magic users and their superior Communal Resist Energy.
Energy Push isn't that useful in the current party composition (need a Field Control/Zoning specialist to make that really work well; aka pushing people into conjured pits, black tentacles, etc)

For Psicrystal, get Fortitude saves or Concentration checks. Against encounters from a GM like me who believes in prodding with every type of attacks to find a weak spot, you want to shore up your weaknesses =P You're a primary 'caster' that isn't divine, which means you will be the preferred target for Fortitude save effects.

I'd note that you currently only have 1 power that allows a saving throw, but don't really have any better suggestions for a Metapsionic feat.

Persistent Power will also help with your Energy Missle/Energy Ball powers, making it more likely to deal full damage. Good as a proof against bosses rolling well on their saves. (Also, from a balance perspective, it will seem more fair and help avoid NOVA problems)

Extend: don't bother.

Empower: this gets better as your levels get higher. Right now it's no more efficient than just using those 2PP to augment for more damage. It would be a late game choice, I see it as roughly equal to Persistent Power.

Improved Initiative: while blasting early in the round is nice, I think you'd be better served picking up something that actually affects your blasting.

I approve of all the things on your "to get" list. Probably in that order as well.

For some fun flavor: would allow you to capture people pretty easily.




Powers:
Mind Thrust is a great opening plan for damage.
Minor Metamorphosis is an amazing buff

Crystal Shard is a good way to avoid Elemental damage.

is also a good choice.

Note: with all Energy spells, when you start your Psionic Focus, you will pick 1 energy type [Cold/Electric/Fire/Sonic] and that is the element that your Energy spells will use. You can change your choice by regaining psionic focus (full round action until you get that Psionic Meditation you plan on getting).

Energy Ball vs Energy Missile: I'd honestly say get both. Energy Missile is going to be your go-to for AOE damage for a while, but Energy Ball is Long range which will allow you to potentially open up with a volley or two before the group can close.

I'd say consider the Energy Bolt, but honestly it probably won't be that useful. You have the right idea about the other attack patterns.

Defensive Measures:
Inertial armor is a very nice and cheap armor buff. it already matches +1 Chain Shirt if you Surge it. 1PP for 6 hours of a +1 armor sounds worth it to me.

Note: when you Wild Surge your Manifester level is increased, so your buffs also increase in duration. Inertial Armor would also be augmented for an additional point of armor with Wild Surge at this level (1PP for 5 Armor for 6 hours is VERY efficient)

Force Screen: not bad, but since you can wear a normal shield, and the duration is only min/level I'd avoid it.

Vigor is not that great. You have a Vitalist in the party to handle healing, and your PP would be better spent on buffs I can't give you, or that patented Wilder DPS. Actions spent manifesting this are actions NOT spent killing bad guys.

Level 2 powers: Stick with Minor Metamorphosis. It scales, and I want to steal it from you starting next level :P

Psicrystal: Concentration or Fortitude. Skills are cheap to raise. Fortitude is more expensive, and tends to be costly to fail. Concentration is even harder to raise. (15+(2 to 18) vs 1d20+ level + Charisma is your main concentration check, and you should be looking to boost your Charisma to a +9 before we hit the high end of those DC's. so DC 33 vs 1d20+17(level when you need to make this check)+9 is a win on a 7) There's a feat that gives +4 for Manifesting Defensively, which wouldn't be the worst idea. Though you should avoid being in melee if possible :P


Next level plan: take either or with your Expanded Knowledge bonus feat. Use your HD5 feat to pick up Psionic Meditation


items to look for: Cognizance Crystals! they're basically rechargeable PP batteries. Note: when manifesting a power, all of the PP has to come from the same source (the Crystal, or your PP pool, not both).

feats to look at: if you're looking to go Astral Construct at some point. This would probably make a good HD7 feat.


With Surging Euphoria, you would most likely want to open combat with a Saving Throw spell (such as Mind Thrust) and then follow up with Ray type spells afterwards (assuming 1 important target) to make use of the Morale bonus on attack rolls. At average BAB progression, and with a decent Dex, you should be able to hit a lot of your ranged touch attacks. Talk with Dai about Warmage's Gloves (or something like that, can't remember the name/source at the moment) that give a bonus on attack/damage with Rays.

Which feats/kinds of feats am I overlooking?
Psionic Meditation (focus as a move action), Boost Constructs (extra menu option), Improved Metamorphosis (extra menu option) and Expanded Knowledge (Discipline Powers) are on my radar, too.

Energy Missile vs Energy Ball:
Energy Ball - Good AoE, comes late (level 11)
Energy Missile - smaller Area, limited number of targets, no friendly fire, earlier
Cones, lines, self-centered bursts, crystal effects - friendly fire, limited area, friendly fire, scales not as nicely.

Defensive Measures:
Inertial Armor - I can wear armor myself, but it would augment nicely
Force Screen - Good shield bonus, but doesn't augment as nicely
Vigor - Very cheap HP, especially if surged. Helps not just against attacks. Lowers requirement of true healing (=>Dhampir)

Level 2 power selection:
Cloud Mind - Mind Affecting, SR-affected, poofs on save => very unreliable. Persistent Power would help, but still. Fun power nonetheless.
Concealing Amorpha - Another defensive option unneeded? Greater version would give full concealment => better?
Control Sound - Plain but useful, especially with creative use. Not augmentable.
Energy Adaption, Specified - Postponed for the general version... which I might never take.
Energy Push - Overlaps with Energy Missile as an Energy attack power. Can use Split Psionic Ray.
Metamorphosis, Minor - So many uses. Might get retrained later if I pick higher versions via feats, though, so what to replace it with?

Psicrystal Personality:
+2 Fort - Low save
+2 Will - Is the good save anyway
No reflex
+3 Concentration - difficult to raise, potentially very useful
+3 Sense Motive/+3 Diplomacy/+3 Perception/+2 Initiative
Note that Ultimate Psionics introduced a staff that, as long as the crystal connects to it, doubles the bonus personalities give.

Ashkharan grew up in the tribes of Seren. At a relatively early age (about 14, though the Seren are not too good with dates), after both parents were killed in a raid by Lhazaar pirates, he began to manifest telekinesis. At first it was simple, just small rocks twitching and moving in moments of distress, until he found he could move larger amounts of earth or stone with focus. After a few months, his rapidly growing power attracted the attention of the Chamber. One of the great dragons appeared to Ashkharan in a dream, calling him to serve the dragons in the larger world. It spoke of a great purpose, a part in the Prophecy, and a place of glory for the young half-orc. Raised as a proper young Seren, he could not help but accept the call, even though the dragon told him that service meant leaving his people.

Ashkharan began to hone his telekinesis, spending more time alone or with the few prisoners taken by the Seren. After a a few more years, he traded some of his raiding booty for passage on a Lhazaar ship bound for the Principalities. He spent the next few years moving from the Principalities to Sharn. The dragon continued to appear to Ashkharan in his dreams, guiding him here and there, though never fully revealing the plan he needed Ashkharan for. The dragon's advice would provide just the right nudge to save Ashkharan's life in an encounter or lead him to some larger goal he could not comprehend. He began to have parts of the prophecy tattooed on himself when he could find a sympathetic half-orc tattooer. But after a few years of this, Ashkharan began to question the dragon. While he was a faithful follower of the dragon and the prophecy for years, beginning from birth, he began to miss the Seren and resent the years of travel without a clear purpose.

In one fateful encounter, the dragon guided Ashkharan to a family in a hamlet in Breland. The dragon needed Ashkharan to scare them, but wouldn't say to what end and warned him against any other action. Ashkharan decided to rob the family as well, believing that he deserved more material rewards for his years of labor. They fought against him, against his taking what little they had, and in the fight one of the family's children suffered a blow to the head and fell unconscious. The family instantly left Ashkharan to take their things, tending to the child instead. Ashkharan was filled with remorse, though not enough to stick around and take the punishment, and the dragon's warning echoed in his ears, the last he would hear from the wyrm. He fled and left the family to their possessions, taking refuge at a monastery of the Sovereign Host in Aundair after hearing that the child would never walk again. He spent several years in contemplation, reconciling the Sovereign Host and the Draconic prophecy. He honed his focus and skill at geokinesis at the monastery as well (and learning their brewing techniques). Eventually he found enough forgiveness in himself to return to the world. He left determined to contribute to the world and bring the prophecy to all. As he travels, he uses his geokinesis to carve bits of the prophecy into the very world itself.

Ashkharan got to Stormreach by boat, seeking parts of the prophecy. He arrived a year or so ago and has spent the time since using his kinetic abilities and abilities as a brewer to build a nest egg to support the exploration he believes he needs to uncover more of the prophecy.
